My wife wants me to pick a knife for myself for our wedding anniversary, because she's lost when it comes to knives. So here it is, help me pick a knife. No customs or anything too pricey. Some of the knives I've been considering: CRKT M18, BM 806D2, Camillus Talonite EDC, Spyderco Salsa, Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese Folder, and the Emerson P-Sark. I have a Sebenza, so it is the benchmark to which I try to compare other knives to, meaning I don't want something that isn't in at least he same ball park as far as QC, lock reliability, etc.

My criteria or preferences for a knife as as follows:

1. Prefer a folder with tip up carry.
2. Decent steel, preferably no lower that AUS8.
3. Reliable lock. Liner locks are iffy so I would prefer to stay
away from them. Yea I know, some of the knives in my list
are liner locks.

I'm just trying to see if I missed any great folders out there, even if they don't meet my preferences.

Well, the only two from your list that I have experience with are the M18 and the EDC (except my EDC is the 154CM). I'd recommend either of those, but I really like my M18. The lockup on my M18 is rock solid and I love the Carson flipper. I'm also partial to recurve blades which is why I like both of those knives. It's probably at the lower end (price-wise) of the knives you've mentioned, but I have no problem recommending the M18.

As for a knife that's not on your list (couldn't resist adding...:p), I just picked up a Microtech LCC which I absolutely love. It fits all your criteria, but the only problem for some people is that it's a bit on the big and heavy side.

kutch, I highly recommend the Lum Chinese :D :

1. Tip up or tip down carry
2. VG-10 steel
3. Linerlock(nested) is one of the toughest that Spyderco produces

Besides these reasons, the aluminum scales are alumite coated for scratch resistance over dual steel liners. ;) I would have to say, IMHO, this Spydie is the closest that you can get to a "custom" knife, without the hefty price tag.

Good Luck

Well, my recommendation would be the 806D2 from your list. As an 'all-rounder' knife that combines ergonomics with reliability...that would be my number one choice in that price range.

There's not too many complaints about that axis lock.
