Picking a knife to carry gets harder every day

I swear it's a tough decision every day on which one to carry. Anyone else have this problem? If so, post your options.

I have a few choices, a little lower down the scale than yours. In the past I never worried about what to carry. I carried the same knife until I found something else and started carrying it.

Some years ago I started collecting watches and I found that watch enthusiasts had the same issue- what watch to put on each morning. I took a different approach and firstly I decided to wear each watch for several days at a time, actually all 5 weekdays each week. Lots of people would lament that some of their watches didn't get worn much. I was collecting knives before I got into collecting watches and I found it interesting that knife collectors might own a lot of knives that they never intend to use, while watch collectors try to wear their watches and if one of their watches isn't getting worn they are quick to sell it and buy another one.

I came up with a method so that all of my watches would get worn a near equal amount. I made up a list, a rotation, and I wear watches according to that list. Each monday morning I pick the next watch on the list, put it on and wear it all week. I've decided to try that rotation method with my EDC knives. I have some from my older collection that I want to start wearing again, plus a few new ones I've recently received. I will eventually make up a list of knives for my rotation and try that system.

Nice little collection. I have both of those ZT's plus a 0560, which you need to get NOW, to make your choice even harder. :D

No problem for me, I pick the one that's the sharpest, or least likely to be confiscated, or least value lost if confiscated.

yep, harder and harder everyday (or payday), the sad thing is that its not all my folders or any of my fixed blades. teh sickness i gots it... and i gots it with flashlights and watches too :(

Looks like a tough problem you have there. ;)

I went that route, too; awhile back. Got tired of huge, heavy pocket knives. Finally settled on something that carries so inconspicuously and stays sharp seemingly forever. Spyderco Caly3 with ZDP 189 blade and carbon fiber handles. (still got a bunch of the big ones, don't worry; they just get carried less)

This. I had several knives, many of which I never actually carried more than once. Settled for a BUCK501 in S30V. It's still factory sharp and slicing every box and package I set in front of its blade.

Nice collection. It's a nice problem to have. I have a few favorites that get most of the pocket time and just alternate the others based on what I have planned for the day just on a whim.

I usually carry the 0302, the Zaan, the SnG, and the s90v para 2. I haven't carried the Tilt yet (probably won't) and the Mudd won't see too much carry because the G10 literally rips my pockets to shreds.

haha as soon as i read the title I knew we were going to have a picture of that collection. Very nice indeed. that's some choice steel right there buddy.

I was going to suggest that you simply rotate them, but you seem to have answered your own question.

You do have preferences of carry.

I have such a fantastic, high end rotation right now, I find it hard to carry any knives under $200 these days. That's my frivolous problem - and I have several that I like and don't sell that are well under $200 like my RAT-1 and a handul fo very nice Kershaws.

I need to get over that because I like those knives a lot.

Just take it one day at a time. Each day is a victory. And if the pressure gets to be too much, I'm here for you. Just box 'em up & I'll even pay postage.;)

I don't have any knives that are very similar to each other, like the ones in OP's pic. However I do have a ZT 0300 but it is my only famelock and only locker in the 3.5"-4" range. My main problem is choosing which slipjoint pattern companion to the locker, stockman, trapper, or toothpick.

Normal carry for me has been a Case Medium Stockman, and a Wegner 10 SAK. If I am going to be outdoors, or know I will have a little tougher work to do, I throw in a Becker BK-13.

I did go thruough a phase when I was constantly swapping out knives for daily use, but changed when I was told the following; "to honesly and truthfully know your knife you have to carry it for a year".

I cant remember who told me that, or even when it was, but it stuck with me. Whenever I think back on that statement, I find more and more truth in it. Even if some of you are doubting it now, pause and take a second to remember what knife you have that feels "right" in your hand, and actually becomes an extension of your body. Keep ergonomics out of it, or handle material (even though that sounds redundant), and concentrate on what knife you can honestly manipulate in the dark, at odd angles, off hand, while passed the point of exhaustion and so forth. Bet that knife has been your most frequent user and companion.

I carry a minimum of three knives daily. Not as a rule, that's how it works out most days. I have my user, go to war knives that I rely on. I do use them constantly and thump on them if I have to. A Spyderco Military and a Temperance 2. I also usually cary a pleasure piece. One of my higher end knives(along the lines of the OP's examples) I like to fiddle with, show to buddies, do very light cutting with and so on. I just pick what I feel like in the morning and go. During the day it is rare I will regret bringing pleasure knife X rather than Y.
