I have my mind set upon an Emerson CQC-11 or CQC-8.

Which one do you guys choose and why?

This knife will be my EDC for general use, self defense, light backpacking and emergencies. I plan on only having a fixed blade at the house, car and out on the trail. Anything else goes to the 8 or 11.

I just returned my 11 since it wasn't "like new" for me and I plan on picking up a 8 or 11.

The 8 fits my hand better but the 11 seems to have a blade that looks like it might have better tip strength. Do any of you find the 8's tip to be more fragile than a typical drop or spear point?

Anyways, thank you all in advance.

i have never heard anyone say the '8 had a weak tip, i would go with the '8 myself, i have 2 of them a EKI version and a custom specwar version and like them both a lot, the '11 is also a good one but i prefer the '8 myself. it fits my hand well also.

as far as production EKIs i would rather have a '12 than either, better blade shape/better lock, a lot more $$ though.

like i said the '11 isnt bad but it just hasnt ever been a fav of mine.

I like the 8 for a sd role, but for most other daily chores the 11 might be better designed. Niether of these knives every really struck me as a must have, but I'm sure they would be a pleasure to own and use. If I had to choose, I'd go with the 8 just because I like the design better personally. As Sifu1a pointed out, the 12 would be the way to go, but it does cost a bit more. Another allternative would be the 13 which I own and like very much, and is similar to the 12. -I will also point out that I've recently seen an 8 for sale cheap on a well known auction site.

8 for me also. The 12 is my favorite knife by Ernie though. I'm half tempted to buy a custom 12 I found for sale but may end up on the couch for the next month or more if I do. SWMBO is not at all happy with the idea.

I'm partially choosing an emerson for the great ergonomics and the weave feature. I'm in LE so I want a knife easily deployed with one hand and the wave fits that bill well.

Everything else about the emersons seems on par with knives of a similar price.

I like a lot of other knife companies as well, but I like knives that fit my huge hands well and also keep my hand from slipping during use. I don't like most of the other emersons because the handles seem like they would be less comfortable or the handles are not as fitting to the hand. I don't care for the 12/13, I don't like that bowie/ak bayonet style at all.

It's going to be a tough decision.

Thanks guys/gals.

from one leo to another, i actually carry two on duty, a 13 waved on my strong side for the more mundane tasks. weak side sap pocket i carry a combat kerambit waved to defend weapon takeaways and such.

the 13 fits my hand perfectly and i like the guard to prevent my hand slipping up to the blade. i had a 7 and changed for that reason.

That's a good system! I am also considering carrying the Ka-Bar TDI weakside and then the emerson right pocket. I'd love to carry a kerambit after some training but as of right now, I'd be more effective with the TDI.

Thanks for your hands on input. ;)

yeah, im not real schooled in the kerambit art, however chose it because of the finger ring and wave, i can deploy with my left (all thumbs) hand and not drop it. everything else i tried ended up on the floor.

I like the 11. Great reach, fast and highly manuverable, great ergos in the various grip changes. Perfect size to cover all the bases EDC/SD etc. The wave is always a selling point, though I hardly wave mine. Been using thumb studs/holes/discs for so long I often forget about the wave. Got to be a problem at first, when I'd grab for it and it would be slightly open almost cutting my fingers in the process. Had to remember to move it slightly away from the corner of the pocket when pulling it out.
