Picking My First EDC

I am on a budget of about $60-$75, I know that's not much, but that's all I will spend so far. I'm not sure if I want to get into collecting knives (my name is deceiving, I hope to be one some day...) but I want to try my luck with a quality EDC and determine if knives are really for me. I live in NV if that helps. I'm partial to thumb studs so I don't want a flipper only.

Try CRKT (columbia river knife and tool). They have a great line up, quality is good. You can probably spend even less than you have budgeted for.

That Kershaw Leek Composite blade looks very clean and sleek and the D2 edge should hold a pretty good edge for awhile according to what Kershaw says. Is it a viable option? And I found it for $60 with shipping, is that a good deal? TheBladeShop.com was the first place I looked. Does anyone here have feedback on that website?

That's a great choice, and the CPM D-2 edge is a great steel for EDC use. Do not purchase from TheBladeShop--way too many bad experiences.

Stick with New Graham, 1SKS, Knifeworks, 2bkc, etc.

Okay, I'm new at this and they were one of the first on google so I assumed they were good, apparently not. And for the guy who asked about if I'm stolas223 reincarnated, no. I stumbled upon this website about 2 weeks ago and just registered about an hour ago.

Id suggest the spyderco delica--Great knife. It doesnt have thumbstuds but the spyder hole works great

Benchmade Mini Griptilian... available in various handle colors.

I prefer the holes, like on Spyderco knives, but comparing knives of the same price I find the Benchmades a bit better made. And some of the Benchmade knives have holes too.

I find the full-sized Griptilian a bit large and bulky for pocket carry, so would choose the Mini-Griptilian for myself.

And here's another similar knife, a great deal for the money from AG Russell.

Want a traditional pocketknife, something like your grandfather might have carried, I've been happy will all of my recent Case purchases:

Those are just my preferences, you'll obviously develop your own.

I don't even own one, and I would suggest a BM Griptilian of some sort. Based on the specs and the Axis lock, it's just a great knife in that price range.

Honestly, you're gonna get a million different recommendations on here, and they will all be good. The bottom line is, you have to find something that works for you. Take a look at all these suggestions, then simply pick one that you think you will like. If at all possible, handle the knife before you purchase it, but in any case, just pick one. I GUARANTEE you it will not be your last knife. And it's not a big deal if you don't like the first one a whole lot. Sell it, trade it, or stash it, and buy something else. Eventually you will find something that works for you.

BTW, you seem quite knowledgeable for a new knife person. Kudos for doing your research, it will save you a lot of time and money...Most of us started with really crappy knives and learned our lessons the hard way!

for a first time knife goer you shouldn't get a "super steel". I wouldn't go for D2, or S30V if I were you, unless your sharpening skills are better than your overall knife knowledge as of now. Those will hold an edge for a long time, but you might get annoyed with how long it might take to sharpen them. While I consider VG-10 and 154CM to Be "Super steels" (some dont), I think you would do fine with either of those two. I would go for a Spyderco Endura or delica, or a Benchmade Griptillian or mini-griptillian. Once you get sharpening down, then go for the "super steels".
