Do you folks care to offer some advice in choosing a model? This would be used primarily as an intimidation tool on my semi truck for unwanted guest if you catch my drift. I am not a guru of any martial arts or anything, just a regular ol Joe. Thanks in advance for your time and patience.

Well Joe, my real name is bawanna but I go by Joe too. (And contrary to all beliefs I never met a Joe that was average)

Just about any HI Kuhkri is gonna provide all the intimidation factor you could dream up.

And it'll double up as a really fine tire thumper too, long as you use the back side, the blade side maybe not so much. Them big rig tires ain't cheap.

For your purposes I don't think you'd need anything too heavy like the AK or CAK class.

I generally steer towards a KLVUK for a first but ain't been many of those offered up of late.

They are kind of a working mans kuk but the weight and size is real handy and generally don't have to skip a tank of diesel fuel to buy one neither.

I'd browse the HI website and see what blows your dress up, like anything else one will jump out at ya and beg to come live with ya. That's the first step.

Then come on back and we can talk the pro's and cons of what appealed to ya, ya know.

There's all kinds of lengths and sizes and weights. I know there's one just right.

A nice side by side scattergun to go with it might be a nice wonderful thing too but no good as a tire thumper.

I think a good set of truck candidates would be :

the bonecutter
the AK bowie
the Pen knife

most especially a cherokee rose -- I think this is really your best bet as it is based on an old american bowie and is a perfection of form and function

welcome to the forum and I hope you hang with us a while !

I'd read through the latest "deals of the day"; they just include more models than what you'd usually see on the website.

all of them have charm, no doubt ron, m43 is hands down one of the best all round models-- just email auntie as stock is always changing, like moon said , check them deals of the day, maybe you see something that strikes your fancy!

Thank you folks. I am kinda drooling over the M43

I have one for intimidation factor as well (a "little" 15"). Didn't have the opportunity to use it in said context, hope never will.

To the unadvised, it looks like an alien-type of weapon. It gets: "Oooh!"s and "Aaah!"s all the time, when I show it to a select few, under more peaceful circumstances.

Got me an 18" m43 that I've carried a few times, it's a beast to carry but people are impressed by it when you pull it out. Something about a 2 lb hunk of razor sharp steel. The pen knife would be a good choice too. Something I might recommend would be a dui chirra, as the politicians say "the more fancy it is, the more dangerous it's got to be!". Something in the 18" 32 oz range should suffice.

High capacity assault fullers and the such.

I'd recommend a KLVUK for your purposes. That's Keshar Lal Villager Utility Knife, named after Keshar Lal, the kami who makes most of them for HI.

It's the most bang for your buck because the forging scales are left on the blade, which reduces labor time, and I think that the black blade is more intimidating than the more expensive polished or satin blades. The KLVUK is a good weight and size for everything except heavy chopping. You can find pictures of it, along with sizes and prices, on this forum. Just enter KLVUK in the search box, or browse through Yangdu's DOTD postings for the past few weeks.

You certainly can't go wrong with an M43 if that catches your eye, but it'll be more expensive than a KLVUK of similar length.

Giant Chitlangi Bowie, Wacky woolen hat and a smile (scattergun optional). Wouldnt you run?:D

Ndog:

I think I'd run from the crazed look on your face more than the weapons. And I don't trust that guitar. :)

I remember the original post with this picture - it was something like "Here's my gun, my knife, and my axe"

That point about the black blade being more intimidating has been debated a lot. I know that W.E. Fairbairn of Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife fame believed that a polished metal blade was more intimidating. I personally agree, though not having the experience of Fairbairn in knife fighting, and never having had to fight with a knife, I can't back up that opinion.

It's a gosh durn miracle. I arose and ran, made it near 100 ft before I remembered I'm a derelict and crashed to the ground still trying to crawl away. It wasn't pretty, it didn't last long, but it was good.

I don't trust that guitar neither.

Ron, if you're going to carry a khuk in the cab of your truck, I'd definitely consider a KLVUK. I carry one in my truck, stuck between the driver's seat on the right and the console in the middle. It is "upside down" so I can draw it quickly. It is not as long or overall as large as my M43, but that makes it more sensible in a confined area. The M43 will take on any errant SOB that is foolish enough to stick around after it pops into view. I do love my '43 as it is a rather special one, but for chorin', the KLVUK is my bad boy of choice. It is just as sharp as my man killer, but even so, sometimes less is more. Small in a confined area is also faster and more agile. It's also less expensive and you won't be so apt to worry about scuffing it up--rather like getting that first dent or scratch on your new car.

Intimidation? Not to mention functional!

I would go for the Cherokee Rose, or Crow Knife, or Trisul, or the Suga Knife!

Of course, there's the more traditional models.

Like the Dui Chirra, Bashpati, and the UBE!

Never mind the engravings, this UBE was a custom.

Normally I would never discourage anyone from buying an HI kukri, but I think buying or using a knife for intimidation is unwise, and likely unsafe. If you're in your truck anyway, the safest & smartest thing you can do is just drive away - de-escalation is almost always the best choice. If you're worried about someone who's in the truck with you...heck, maybe you should keep your doors locked, and avoid inviting dangerous people on road trips.

If you somehow find yourself in this kind of dangerous situation anyway, I still think having a knife just for "intimidation" is a bad idea. A kukri ain't a lightsabre, but it still requires a certain amount of skill to use properly, especially in a confined environment at a time when you're under a lot of stress & pressure. Trying to intimidate someone with a weapon you don't know how to use is really dangerous - you'll probably just escalate things even further. What's more, having a kukri at hand may give you a certain degree of false confidence, and lead you into a dangerous situation that you could have avoided.

Ill second that:thumbup: ...Hmmm Im agreeable today aint i? Actually i was thinking Karambit (assuming I dont have a pistol and that aint happening). Suga possibly as well but something short and that can take a head off mostly with a single punch comes to mind. Then a good door slam and jack slap his you know what to the ground and then a good drop stomp from the cab. I wouldnt show anything I dont plan to use.
