Hi, just wanted to check for suggestions on a knife. This is gonna be the first good knife I own, and I want it to be something I can carry in my pocket use for everyday stuff. I'd like to get something durable.
So far the 2 that have caught my eye are the benchmade 806D2 and the 710HS. Right now I'm kind of stuck in the middle, so any suggestions one way or the other would be much appreciated, as would suggestions for other knives I should be considering. Also, one specific issue for anyone who owns both, how do D2 and M2 compare to one another, and which do you like better?
Thanks.

Hey telemundo well I own the 710HS and love the thing to death. M2 is probably one of the best steels out there to make aknife with. The only thing you will have to watch out for with 710 is the recurve in the blade. If this is your first good kniofe make sure you have good sharpening habilities because if you are not careful you just might loose the recurve and that is not cool.

M2 hold an edge a little better then D2 but D2 is easier to sharpen then M2. Both are great knives and you will not be disapointed with the purchase of a Benchmade. They are the only folder I buy.

Hope this help abit and good luck. Oh yeah it bools down to the one that fits your hand properly or if you will allow me to quote from the BM forum. "Get them both".

The 710 would be more "carry friendly", but if I were you I would go for a 721, 154cm easy to sharpen, nice bowie blade, light (wonderful) to carry, good size edc. I have many benchmades and the 721 is my favorite for edc: http://www.newgraham.com/benchmad31.htm ;)

both the 710HS and the 806D2 are good knives. The 721 makes a good edc in my opinion :)

Either one would serve you well. But have you considered the 705 it is a little smaller and therefore might make a better EDC.

Handle them both before you decide. I was leaning toward the 710HS before I handled and pocketed (with the salesman's permission) the 806D2. I went with the 806D2. I used it for EDC and beat the crap out of it for five months camping, gardening and the like.

My current EDC is a Benchmade 550 (smaller, lighter and legal to carry where I live). I love the form factor. I just wish they offered a "Super Griptilian" with a D2 blade and aluminum or G10 handles. I recently lost my 550. I liked it so much I immediately ordered another one from New Graham. I'm thinking about putting red "trainer" handles on the new one to make it harder to lose ;)
