I have just picked up a Case 6254 and the main blade has the Case XX stamp with the second blade tang stamped USA is this the common setup for the trapper. No other folder I own has two blades marked like this.

Sounds normal to me, just looked at my Case 62032 small texas jack. And on the main blade is a the Case stamp then on the pen blade there is the model number with USA and the blade steel.

My newly manufactured 2013 Case 6254 Trapper has the long-tail C Case logo with the Xs and dots on the tang of the clip blade.

The spey blade says
USA
6254
SS

I assume this is the standard marking.

Thanks for the replies, I was doing my semi regular pawnshop hunt and came across the Case. It is the first trapper for me and my fourth Case overall, but like I said I haven't seen two tangs marked on any other folder with more then one blade. I'll post pics of it later.

I have a trapper scout with 2 different date marks, one stamp was like 4 or 5 years difference. The trapper scout isn't the most common variation but it would appear to me they have bins full of parts and just select as needed,, no date priority.

On multi-blade folders, it's common for Case to put the 'pattern stamp' on a secondary blade, while the official 'tang stamp' with Case's name, date marks and sometimes the 'USA' mark (1965 and later) on the front of the primary blade's tang. A 'USA' mark is sometimes also included with the pattern stamp on the secondary blade, and sometimes will be missing on the primary's tang stamp. On real small knives with little tang surface area, I suspect space limitations sometimes influence where the 'U.S.A.' mark will end up (I'm looking at my 2012-vintage Peanut, which doesn't feature the 'U.S.A.' on the primary clip blade, but does have it on the secondary pen blade with the pattern stamp).

Pre-1965 knives from Case won't have the 'USA' mark on them (federal law requiring the country of origin stamp on U.S.A.-made products took effect in 1965).

Yeah thats completely normal, here's a few pictures of my case trapper, not the best but you get the idea.

Any idea of date for mine? And dull as a butter knife, kinda scared to sharpen it. Don't want to scratch the blades, the have to have a low bevel edge.

Yours was made in 2003. Go ahead and sharpen it. I put a 20 degree bevel per side on my Case knives. Yours is in good "user" condition. It's not a rare collectible by any means. Sharpen it up and drop it in your pocket.

If you cared to, you could spiff it up a bit and have it looking brand new. But it looks fine the way it is for pocket carry and use.
