I woke up this morning to a nice breeze. Still humid, but not super hot. Its overcast and spittin rain from time to time. Its been brutal hot here lately. I have been wanting to get out with my Becker since I finished it up, so I decided to go out and prep a fire and see how I liked it while the weather was showing mercy.

For those of you that missed it, I aquired a first generation BK2 and did some work to it. Heres the thread with the pics etc... http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39125

I used some sycamore I had in the shop and took to a shady spot with my handy VW fire dish. I am pretty impressed with the way it worked for me. The convex edge I put on it stayed sharp, and the 1/4in thickness split wood very well. Im not very experianced with blades this thick, but I did notice that a definate change in tech from what im used to is needed to get good curls. Some of mine are still thick. However, it worked well, and feels a whole helluva lot better then the stock one. The scales are 3/16. Probably way thinner then most guys would want. I like em. Plus I wanted a bigger knife that carried flat, and would take a beating without costing me 300 bucks. It wouldnt be my go to choice for a field knife due to its thickness, and it not really being the most comfortable knife for bushcrafting.....but.... I bet I carry it from time to time. I got some great experiance doing the handles on it, and it was a fun project to beat the heat. Still gonna do leather for it soon as I finish an order and get caught up with some other stuff.

Forgive the lack of prep, I was just screwin around, im in town, and every real woodsman knows that only just enough prep is needed. Hahaha...Sorry.

:D Sarcasm guys....3x the prep is the ticket.:thumbup:

Heres some pics.

Thanks to all the guys who showed interest in my hack job....lol

Great pics, great job on the knife & sparky and there's no such thing as too much practice. Thanks for sharing.

Jake, excellent job on the BK-2. I think I would really like those scales. Even though I love the grips on my Machax, I don't like them on my BK-2.

I think I might try to get my hands on some G10 and do something like this.

Are those pins just held in place with the epoxy?

It wouldnt be my go to choice for a field knife due to its thickness, and it not really being the most comfortable knife for bushcrafting...

I love the looks of your mods but you could address that comfort issue by installing factory grivory. :D

Thanks guys I appriciate it. I think it turned out pretty neat.

Pins and micarta are held on with devcon epoxy. Took some time with hand tools, but its not too hard of a project......

Gotta love the splitwood fire....I do one every time I get a new knife to get a feel for how it handles. Really gives a good idea. Especially if its seasoned hardwood...hahaha. This was seasoned 1/4 sawn sycamore. Part of the reason I skimped on the prep is while I split it down I got a really good chunk for a nice long handled spoon. Should look nice.
