With the recent post regarding the TOPS Hoffman Harpoons, I thought I would take mine out and use it a bit. It's primary function is a secondary knife and spear tip. Let me start by saying I don't think it is good idea to use your primary knife as a spear or gig. This knife is designed to supplement another blade, and also has a barb incorporated into in to it to secure prey.
I started off using a small sapling I had cut to use as a walking stick, but has started splitting as it has dried. I notched it a few inches from the tip, and cut down to the notch. This gives a place for the butt of the handle to catch. One piece of para cord secures the Harpoon to the shaft, the other I use as a lanyard, should it come off the shaft.

I think it's a good idea to put the sheath on it when not in use.

Here is the video, it a little bloody in that it shows a fish being gigged and cleaned, but I covered up me cursing and swearing when I missed with some cheesy music.:

That group buy is where I got this one Mike.

Thanks for the compliments, fellas.

Hi,

Nicely done video! It looks like a handy little knife.

Just a word of caution, be certain it's legal to spear. It would suck to get nicked.

For sure. Far as I can tell, in this area, it is legal as long as you don't dive or use a speargun. But absolutely always check local laws, even within the same state and county they can differ depending on Wildlife Management regulations.

Like Andy said: Nice bluegill...do u call them that? Cuz there are many names round my neck of the woods for em. Perch, bluegill, bream, warmouth, sunfish, etc. My generic name for most of em is perch..even tho it is probably not technically a perch
