BlackJack Trial Guide III, made by Bark River out of 52-100. For me it is just short Randall #1 out of very good and rare steel - classic american knife. Kind of more practical for my needs version of Randall #1. It is 7/32" thick, top edge is sharp guard is stainless, heavy butt - knife balanced way I like (heavy handle) almost everything perfect!

Just got it two days ago:

Unfortunately there is some cosmetic manufacturing defect on the top edge - it is not even:

unfortunately they do not have any Trial Guide III to exchange (one which left has same problem), I call Bark River - they say, they can not help with knife under different brand and I e-mail Kevin Warner - he suggested me to return knife and have my money back, but I like this knife too much - I decide to keep it, even it is defective a bit - (true love you know...). However I am disappointed with Bark River manufacturing quality (or quality control) - you do not expect such things when it "Made in USA".

Thanks, Vassili.

You have good taste. That is an awesome little knife. Someday I will own one

Vassili - All the uneven grind does is make it more of a user instead of something you want to keep in a drawer. Go cut something, shave hair off a cat, or do some kind of knife test. I know, go stick a pig. Maybe you will have better luck that me.

Shoooot - that's just character!! :p

All funnin' aside though - I hear 'ya.

In fact, I wouldn't have been too happy myself with this.

If it helps, I do know that is one sweet knife you got there....non-the-less. ;)

I agreed this is very nice knife, too bad that manufacturing is not perfect. It does not matter for use, it is just defective - no more no less. And this is why I am disappointed.

Thanks, Vassili.

nozh2002,

I believe that model was made by Warner at marbles, after Mike Stewart left.

Please check your PM at knifeforums.com for more detail.

Thanks

I am really sad that I did wrong things for respectable manufacturer - Bark River.

Now I know that this knife was not made by them. It is laser engraved, but BR use acid etching. I am sorry for posting this lie on the forum. However I was mislead by Bark River because when I called them first trying to replace this knife they sad that it was made by BarkRiver (I sad it is TrailGuide III etc and they never regret this) - at least I had that impression after our conversation. And Ken Warner in his e-mail did not say that it is not Bark River production. This is why I sad it was made by BarkRiver. I was wrong.

Again this defective knife was not made by Bark River. Please accept my appologies.

When I try to sharpen top of the blade it appear that from the right side angle more then 40 - it is impossible to sharpen it on this ange.

Thanks, Vassili.

I agree with everyone else on the cosmetic flaw. It won't affect performance. I know what you mean, knowing it's there does bug you. I have one with the single guard. Awesome cutting knife. You'll like that convex grind. Just strop and go. Real easy to resharpen. With use, the blade will get a nice patina as it's carbon steel. Hope you enjoy it. ;)

It is not quite cosmetic - I tried to sharpen top on 40 degry - it is impossible. However I do not plan to use top of the blade, anyvay, but it still defective may be just a little bit.

Thanks, Vassili.
