My wife and I spent the weekend in the Boone/Blowing Rock/Banner Elk area of North Carolina this weekend. The area is an easy 2-2.5 hour drive from our house on the outskirts of Charlotte.

After getting rain all day Friday, the weather this weekend was spectacular. Here are a few pics from our trip.

The first few are from Highway 221, which is a tight, twisty, two-lane road with a gourgeous tree canopy, blind turns, mountains a few feet from your car on one side, and certain death on the other side if you make the slightest mistake. The rest are from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which was fairly lightly traveled due to the peak leaf color being last weekend.

Hope you enjoy the pics...

Very nice pics! I love living 20 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The second from last shot looks about like the view from our farm.

Nice images, Kelly. Looks like time well spent.

Absolutely gorgeous! Haven't been to that area for over twenty years, and your incredible pictures brought back great memories. Such awesome colors in the mountains this time of year!

Thanks for sharing!

Best regards,

Nick

Absolutely fantastic photos! :D

You in the USA are lucky to have such unspoilt wilderness.

Great pictures,I haven't been through there in about 15 years or so,it is a spectacular part of the country.

Wonderful pics. Makes me long to go back down again. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon 14 years ago in Maggie Valley, NC, and that was my first time on the BRP. We've been back down about half a dozen times since and I've made sure every time we spend a good bit of time back on that wonderful road. We always go down in May, but I'd really like to drive the BRP in the fall sometime. We're planning on heading down for a week for our 15th anniversary next May, and I'd like to drive the entire length of the BRP if we can.
