Topped a hill, and ran into a patch of Yucca. First time Ive seen any that wasnt in town growing. All the guides I have say we have it, Ive just never seen it. Great for friction fire, and cordage.

Harvested Mullien and Yucca for friction fire supplies for the Hardwoodsman meet coming up.

Gear for the day was my new maxpedition 10x4 bottle holder I just got from Bushcraft Outfitters, with my leather baldric I made, and my PSK on the strap.

Knife was my Tusker from Gossman. I had my Farmer in my pocket as well.

Like I said...Randomness....:D

Rockin' stuff man, especially like seeing useful plants/trees from other areas  Yucca is my favorite, so many uses and it's all over the place here. Also digging your Tusker, and that UNK is pretty rad too :D

great pics Jake.. though we live in woods, i would love to have more time to get out... we have been so crazy busy lately..:o

Yeah, its all over out west, thats for sure! Its a great plant to know. Thanks bro. That Tusker be gettin some charicter isnt it? Looks better an better with use. You need to get on scoring a UNK.....Its flat awesome.

nice shots, thanks for sharing!

Thank you bro...

Great stuff J. Only been a week out of the woods myself and I miss the wilds already!

Great stuff Jake. You need to save me a nice straight Yucca stalk and bring it to Gosstoberfest!

Great pics. How was the yucca cordage done in the first pic? 3 leaves braided/weaved together?

Nice pics J. Yucca is good for friction fire eh??? I didn't know that. I'm guessing the stalk is used when it is dry? Love that Tusker

Awesome J, great find in the yucca.

Bryan

Thanks Bryan!

that Tusker just exudes "I'm all business!" :D

Yes it does. :D

Thanks brotha...I will hook you up.

Glad to hear you ha a good day bro. I like the blade, looks like a great user.

Thanks man. Its been a great knife. Ive put it through the ringer. Gossmans A2 is bout as tough as it gets. I batoned it through a bunch of Osage last weekend for a campfire.....

Thanks! I took one leaf and split it into 3 strands, then braided. Yucca splits very easy for cordage. Tough stuff too. The bottom is just 2 strand twist.

Thanks man!

Yeah the stalks after they dry out. Makes about the best spindles for hand drill(although I havent got a coal yet), bow drill, and you can do the 2 stick hearthboard with it too. Yucca on yucca gets a coal super fast. As does the mullien..Just takes some finese in prepping it. Lots of pith, so you gotta watch the knife a bit when your cleanin it up.

My Tusker is a great knife. Scott knows his stuff. I was worried about the guard, but I really have grown quite fond of it. Plus the handle is nice and fat. I almost changed from a spear point at the last minute to the clip, but im glad I was too late. The spear point is perfect for a woods knife.

Good stuff. You know your plants  Ive still got a long way to go recognizing the green stuff.

Thanks man, I appriciate it. Ive been puttin some time in with em, as I usually do in Spring. Ive got a long ways to go also. I think one is truely never done though. Always honing skills, and learning new uses for plants you know, etc....:)

you are nimble with your fingers to do such great braiding. the indians wove all kinds of baskets & cordage from various plants.--dennis

Thanks guys!

Dennis, thank you. I appriciate that. Ive had alot of practice......Actually a pack basket has been on the project list for some time now.....
