In the absence of shop machines to rough shape handles, VANCE had to be the machine.

So Paul Brach was forging a sword, and lots of people wanted to contribute to the effort.

Remember a discussion not too long ago about Andy sticking his pinky finger out? Well, when he slings a hammer, his thumb goes up.

This the sword Fiddleback has been making.

A coal forge.

I'm not sure if it's common for sparks to travel all the way around the belt and shoot back at the knife maker. Maybe just when @allen456 is grinding?

My first attendance to this event was on Friday. I will be back! I enjoyed it and meeting many of you very much. I now own a Cohutta Knife Baby Bearpen from the festival and have a Fiddleback Bushfinger ordered. Hooked!

R RobbieB — thanks for starting this thread and taking some ‘action’ shots of my project at trackrock. Thank you Fiddleback for turning me on to such a great group and @crex for the hospitality and invaluable instruction on saturday. You are as good as it gets.

There are prob a dozen more folks I could shout out to; however, I should mention Southern Gent , Fiddleback Outpost , and @Cohutta for taking in a homeless brother.

Spring trackrock was my first hand-made sheath for the gpkw lunch box chef knife....and it took all day. This time i made my first knife out of a concrete wall form tie.....and it took all day, albeit 4 hrs to get the heat treat and tempering accomplished.

A second wall tie below shows the before and after. There were a lot of steps between these two examples. Distal taper on the blade and tapered tang. Maybe I’ll finish it at trackrock next year?!

My weekend went from this (Saturday morning at Trackrock)....

....to this, the next day and entire week. Makes you appreciate the chattahoochee national forest!

Finally found time to reflect over a drink and fall trackrock acquisition — a hand-forged carl rechsteiner aka @crex blade/sheath. Cheers!
