Howdy!

Warning: knife abuse stories ahead. :)

I'll try to keep this..."not like a review".
I just wanted to chime-in again, seeing how my last couple threads were all "worrysome" about it.

I decided to use it as a beater after all that, and I'm glad I did.
No offense at all to the knife or Emerson with that statement. I wouldn't be using it how I am if I didnt like it.

Im having a great time beating on it.
It has handled everything with stride.

I have:
-Stabbed through a refrigerator door (wanted to see how thick the metal was. Long story)
-Pried off paint-can lids
-Pried the caliper off my truck. Broke the tip, but it did it.
-Pried the brake pads off
-Hammered with the handle
-Dropped it
-Scraped all sorts of stuff
-Used it as a screwdriver
-Pried out bullet-casings that were jammed in my guns action
-Opened many beer bottles
-Cut hoses off from fittings, dragging it down the fitting as I did.
-Bent the clip out about 45 degrees
-And once in a while it cuts stuff :D

Once a while back, I had issues with lock stick, and realized it was from oil on the tang.

It wasn't very easy to disassemble and Reassemble, though. My one complaint.

From prying off the caliper.

The lockup is still great
The action is still great
Still no bladeplay
Still centered

Emerson has created a long term customer in me.

Most of the people that bash them have never owned one , Honestly IMO
I had 3 until about 2 month ago my 7 went missing ,no idea where just realized when I got home from acerage one day .
I will replace it but just trying to decide on regular or the mini.
Great right up Bladeboss Thanks

Emersons seem to be more polarizing than many brands. A lot of folks either love 'em or hate 'em. A lot of the people who use them day-in and day-out, especially who use them hard, come to respect the knives for their simplicity and toughness. A lot of the complaints people have is that Emerson doesn't use more cutting edge materials and pay more attention to the fit and finish of the knives.

To each his own. Personally, being the troglodyte that I am... I like old school materials that are tried-and-true and that I'm familiar with and can easily work with. I've had a bunch of Emersons, but I've never had one I didn't like and I've never had one to let me down in any way.

If you like the knife and it works for you, nobody else needs to "approve" your knife. Just use it and enjoy it.

Love it!

My first "real knife" was an emerson cqc7. My dad bought it for me in 2000. I used it exactly like you are for about 5-6 years straight.

Prying, scraping, cutting shingles while roofing........
Even broke the tip off prying a can open.

It's still one of my prized possessions. And I carry it from time to time.

Great knives.

I

I was unaware that many people dislike them...

yeah there is a group here that will call anyone who likes or uses their emerson a tactical timmy poser and such and hammer on poor fit and finish and low end materials and high price, etc.

i just like mine and use them like yourself, except not as a screwdriver or pry bar, etc. just to cut stuff.

enjoy yours it will do well for ya for years.

Here's a pic of mine.

back when I got this, I didn't know how to sharpen my own knives. So I used to stop in at my local knife shop and have them touch up the edge from time to time.

Last time took it there, back in mid 2000's, a guy took it back and hammered the edge. This is what he brought back out!!!

I still kept using it regardless. I always think about getting a new blade from EKI and just keeping this one. But I still love it and use it from time to time.

Great knives: solid, ergonomic. Still wish Ernie would offer blades with a V grind and different steel, CTS-XHP or even CPM-154.

My HD-7 sees a lot of pocket time. I was surprised by how much it is carried. I've been eyeing a Cqc-15.

Emerson does have knives in V grind, but the edge bevel grinds are still one-sided.

Jim
Yeah, I modded my "V" drop-point (can't remember the designation) to a true V-grind, but it thickened up the blade profile quite a bit.
