Well the SOB seems to be getting a lot of attention so I figured I'd take some pics, give more detailed specs, and thoughts on the little bastar...I mean badger

For starters, the knife feels great. The SHBAs are among my favorite knives Busse has made, great feel, size, looks, everything. And this little badger mimics the feel great. It is a bit thin for my liking (my A2 fatty feels SO right to me though), but keeps everything thin and light.

This is a SOB placed over a SHBA, pins line up pretty dead nuts on. The handle on the SOB is shorter than the SHBA, but the beer gut sticks out more

SHBA, SOB, Basic 5

Next to a TA44

Mixed with gun porn (don't judge on the 20rd mag or the Zee Rings. Was benchshooting earlier to sight in the scope and the Zee Rings were the only spare rings I had that worked on the TA21)

Next to a Fortis Hammer

And in hand (my glove size is often large for reference, but it really depends on the glove too)

Blade thickness is 1.63, blade length is 4 11/16", 9 9/16" overall. The handle on my SHBA is 5 1/8" long for reference, compared to the 4 7/8" of the SOB. The beer gut on the SOB sticks out 1.306" at the widest, handle thickness is .835".

The slightly smaller handle on the SOB makes the knife feel a touch more solid IMO, because it prevents your hand from sliding a lot.

I don't have a scale that goes high enough to weight it unfortunately, but it is fairly light.

Overall, I love the old school lines. Can't wait to see a special release in ATS-34 or D2 :D

Nice review/comparison--Thanks!
Wanted a SHBA for a while now,but their scarce & hi dollar.
Looks to be a sweet blade & should be a great slicer as others have said.
I have no problems with beer gut's!

ummmmm, no Blade. I rescheduled my vacation and used it up already. When's the next chop-in?

Nice gear and pics!;):thumbup: I really like that little SOB; I hope some show up at Blade, and AT THE SAME TABLE PRICE.

Very nice report, thanks. Question re the handle length. You say that the SHBA has a longer handle, but that the pins line up. So is the difference simply the longer butt on the SHBA? Are the two handles pretty much the same on the inside of the grip area?

Always have an excuse...

As for the chop in, not a clue. Would be nice to have a meet and shoot this year like we did a couple years ago. You could bring your 338 and we could shoot it at a whopping distance of 50 yards :D

In short, the SOB has a larger beer gut and a smaller butt, while the SHBA is skinnier and has more junk in the trunk

From the bottom of the rear bolt on the SHBA to the end of the tang, it's .96" long, while on the SOB it's .835".

Scale length on the SOB is 4.494" and the SHBA is 4.868" long, but the SHBA tapers and reaches down further.

The front of the scales on the SHBA is 3.956" wide and the SOB is 3.808" wide.

Distance from talon holt to rear talon hole on the SHBA is 4.31" and for the SOB it's 4.209"

This SOB has my attention.

Thanks very much for this! You answered all of the questions I have been pondering about this Badger. I had a SHBA briefly and miss it so I have high hopes for this model. That beer gut looked more pronounced than it's great grand pappy and your measurements prove it, how does that bit feel?

Any chance you have a RMD to compare it to?

Cheers!

how does it compare to the basic 4? Anyone have a both and can post a comparison shot?

I don't have either, I do have a SAR 3 and a Mud Mutt variant I could take a side by side with tomorrow

As for the bigger gut, I like it. Compensates for the thinner blade on the SOB so overall fills the hand close to an original SHBA
