I've narrowed my second Sebenza down to a large 21 KA CF or a large 21 Micarta Tanto from TNK! Anybody with both on here that could provide some pictures? Even if you only have one or the other, pics are appreciated. Also, which one will wear better if it's actually used as a daily work knife? Thanks!

I don't have either, but I would go on the record saying IMO the tanto is not the best EDC profile. I would say the micarta will be the better EDC if you are worried about how it looks as you can send it in for a spa day and have it made to look new if it has minor wear. I have a CF 25 and it wears well so far. AFAIK it can't be refinished at the spa.

I want a micarta for EDC, but I also would like to know how the tanto performs. I have to say, it's the most aesthetically pleasing blade shape.

I have a small 21 micarta that is due home from the spa soon. I plan to sell it and replace it with a 25 micarta. A 25 came up on the exchange for a deal too good to pass on so I had to get it as it's IMO it's the best for EDC. Love it. Fills the hand super well, great grip and can be sent for a spa day when it needs it.

The only question is what lanyard bead do I put on it. Then it will be headed into the pocket.

Micarta is my choice all day for EDC. I have a PJ and CF 25 to rotate with though.

Blade choice.... IMO if you like to do the slicing and don't mind the aesthetics, go Insingo. If you want the classic; do all well go standard drop point. If you think you might need to stab something like a car door. Go Tanto.

All is JMHO!!!

My one and only Seb is a plain insingo large 21, so it'll be either a tanto or a regular. I don't own any regulars yet so that's kind of leaning me towards the KA CF large 21 regular, that and the super light weight. I Just wish I had $1,000 to spend right now so I could get them both and post my own pics on this thread!

Good morning!

For edc I really like the insingo blade. I used to have the KnifeArt CF insingo (large) as my edc, until a friend talked it out of my hands :D

21 Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 03

21 Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 04

21 Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 10

21 Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 11

BHQ has an exclusive with CF inlays, availabe with insingo as well as with spearpoint blade:

21 Insingo Carbon Fiber pair, 04

After my friend picked it I needed to go for a new edc and decided to stay with the insingo blade style, but to go for micarta inlays (not because I think it is better than the CF, but just wanted to have something new/different):

This is the KnifeArt CF for my collection, not being used:

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 02

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 03

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 05

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 07

I think both, CF scale and micarta inlays, are great and you should go by your personal preference. The CF scale makes a large Sebenza incredibly light. It is a bit more exclusive, as being sold only via one particular dealer and the CF scale is hardly showing any wear. The micarta inlay provides better grip, particularely if the knife is wet. The micarta is "almost indestructable" whereas the titanium slab will show some wear and "scars", which I like as it gives the knife some kind of character.

I happen to have both of the knives you are interested in. They are both larges and left-handed. Here ya go...

Thanks for these!! Do you carry either of them or are they shelf knives?

I carry the tanto fairly often, even for work (cotton farm). I much prefer the tanto over the insingo for the kind of tasks that my knives usually do. The two carbon fiber knives are "holiday" knives for me.

I'm guessing you cut a lot of cotton with the tanto? Which other tasks do you commonly use your tanto for if you don't mind me asking? Thanks! Still very on the fence about this purchase.

Well, for instance if I'm trying to take a zip tie loose without breaking it I need a nice pointy tip to move the lock tab over so that I can take the tie off and re-use it later. I use a knife for anything from the above described to cutting rubber hose, opening boxes, scraping gaskets, piercing and cutting seed bags, etc. For my personal uses I prefer the drop point with the tanto a distant second and the insingo behind that. When I first started using the tanto I didn't care much for it but I stuck with it and now I like it. However, a micarta 25 gets the bulk of the pocket time with the tanto picking up the slack.
Edit: I almost forgot that the tanto is going to be somewhat more difficult to maintain the edge on. Also, the micarta inlays really help if you're using it for heavier cutting tasks. You really can't go wrong either way. If I could throw another knife into the mix for you it would be a micarta 25 if you need a true work knife.

I've never really considered a 25 because I like the simple pivot of the 21 and how it doesn't need any loctite, etc. do you own an umnum as well?

I think a lot of my uses will be similar to some of the ones you listed so maybe I'll stick with the clip point. So I guess I'll have to decide between grip or weight. I've seen a ton of praise for the micarta but not a lot for the KA CF overall. Everyone LOVES the micarta inlayed sebs.

Thanks for not getting mad at me about it, it happens ALL the time. Once in a while I can't contain myself.

No problem whatsoever! I saw your post, did a bit of research to educate myself further and quickly realized you are 100% correct based on the true definitions of the blade shapes. Now I realize that all this time I have been ignorant and have been calling the blades the wrong name. Thanks for nudging me in the right direction.
