Hi ,
I don't post here much but figured I'd ask for some pics of your Colossus packs in action.

I have one coming with the bottle carrier that I plan on using for some hikes this year and maybe on my hunts.

I'm looking to make a "Low Profile" sheath set up as not to attact too much attention if it is a high volume path.

Thanks in advance

James

I like maxpedition stuff but the colossus just does not do it, actually the way it is made just sucks very little space for a pretty good size bag and it wears funny over my shoulder, I am going to get something else soon. just my thoughts

I'm going to have to disagree with RickJ a little. I really like my Colussus and have been using it for about 3 months. I don't have pics at this time but heres what I've got in it for a hike.

Top pocket:
Rite-In-the-Rain journal
Pencil
Compass

Front pocket (top):
Cell phone
Emergency blanket
Survival Key chain (whistle, light, firesteel, folding knife)
Energy/granola bars

Front pocket (bottom):
MSR Pocket Rocket stove
Water purification straw

Main pouch:
Marmot Rain Jacket
4oz. Fuel container
Gerber folding saw (mesh slot pocket)
Map (slot pocket)
Sharpening stone (mesh slot pocket)
Small first aid kit.

Back slash pocket:
Gerber Diesel Multi-tool
Mag-lite flashlight
30' paracord
All housed in triple mag holder.

Attached to the side is a regular Roly Poly dump pouch (Army issue poncho fits great for minimal overnight kit) and Maxpedition M2 pouch containing binoculars, firesteel, Altoid survival kit.

On belt. Army issue canteen with cup and Fallkniven F1. I use the belt loop provided and it helps to revlieve weight on the shoulder and carries well. I appreciate that the bag can be worn easily on both shoulders. I've also owned a Jumbo Versipack. I really like it but the Colussus carries a little more gear. I also use the Colussus as a work/grad school bag and it carries books much better.

I hope this is helpful. I wish I had some pictures, maybe after some Spring hikes.

I find that the Versipacks suck for hiking. The single shoulder strap does not balance the load properly on your body. It is very awkward to walk without having to adjust the bag every five minutes because it digs into your shoulder and puts strain on it. A backpack should be the preferred item of choice for hiking.

Thanks Guys;
I'm sure it isn't everyones cup of tea but for what I want I think it will work.

I have a few Fatboys but I want a regular strap set up so I can switch shoulders and probably have it ride just behind the hip instead of in front of.

Please keep the reviews and comments coming ;)

Thanks Brother

i'm just going to use it for easy day hikes/hunts to start and modify if I need to. I have backpacks for longer outings but I like a sling bag for the short ones especially the hunts so it won't obstruct the viesw of my orange vest ;) and will leave my rifle shoulder clear while dogging .

Stay Safe , are you still on the job ?

RickJ, Contact me if you would... I've been looking for a Maxpedition Colossus and I've got other gear to trade or would be willing to buy. If you're not happy with it I'd be interested in taking it off your hands... I love my Jumbo Versipack and was just looking for something a little bigger. Give me a shout... my email is public here.

Pretty much spot on! I had a pack like that and the trip was very memorable on my shoulders especially if you're carrying a lot of stuff!

I am not trying to highjack this thread, but has anyone tried the Remora? I just need something handy that I can use riding my motorcycle and pounding the pavement during my daily routine. When I hike I have a serious pack for all the extra junk I haul around and really don't need anyhow. :D

I have a lunada, If your anything like me you will be glad you went a step-up. When I recived it I was under the impression it was the remora when really it was the lunada, and I still found it on the small side.

unless you carrying a wallet, keys, a light, multitool, and odds & ends, I would go the size up to the lunada. But if you want something light to carry a small amount of extra gear, it should be good.

Another thing is that the lunada has much better padding on the strap and also has a cross strap that comes across the chest, keeps it very balanced.

Which one is bigger? I was given a Maxped Versipak as a gift but I cant tell if its the Fatboy or the Jumbo. Is there some way to tell the difference without having them side by side?--KV

Jumbo's slightly bigger, and the fatboy has two accessories pockets where as the jumbo has a bottle holder.

I have a jumbo s type for edc. Loaded down with goodies including a G20 with 3 spare mags. I love it.
