Okay, I know what the left side of the knife looks like.
I've seen that about a zillion times so far but could someone with a Mini and a camera take some pictures showing the actual method of construction?

PLEASE?
Top views, bottom views, whatever you want, just please show me something so I can see the difference between the construction methods of the Mini and the past Commanders.

Please, pretty please?
PUH-LEEEEEEEEEEASE???????

Until someone gets better pictures...

I hope this is easy to explain.
The mini commander is built similar to the other EKI production knives.
Two screws near the back go through (or thru) the scale, the liner, the backspacer, and are threaded into the opposite liner. There are two such screws on each side, making a total of four screws in the rear of the knife.
This is different from the regular commander, which the scales are screwed directly to the adjacent liner, and under the scale without the clip, there are four screws sunken into the liner, which go through (or thru) the backspacer, and are threaded into the lock side liner.
I think most, if not all, of the custom knives are put together in this manner, ie like the large commander. I believe the Specwar used to be built like the commander, but the design has since changed. I think the raven is also built this way.

The mini commander follows the same pattern used by the CQC-7, SOCFK, SARK, ,and Mach-1

The mini commander also has "ridges" if you will, where the thumb rests on the top, and where the pinky rests on the back, like the SOCFK

Hope this helps.

Ahhhhh! *I* get it!
:D

Thanks much for the pics Bob, they're great, and malazo, your explanation is exactly what I have been trying to figure out all this time.

I knew there was something different, just couldn't figure out WHAT!

Hopefully this illustrates Malazo's description...

BTW, Bob, shown is a pair of the new Stealth Stylus that I ground out for you today. I'll get them out to you first thing next week. :)

Well I can certainly see why the change is desirable from a manufacturing point of view. It eliminates 6 screws and holes. That's a lot of operations to cut out of the machining and assembly processes.

The burning question is of course;

How does this affect the solidity of the knife?

Say, for the sake of comparison, these same changes were applied to the regular Commander. Would it be stronger, weaker, or pretty much the same as the current design?

Doesn't really matter I guess, the CQC-7s are solid little knives, there's no reason why the Mini-Commander shouldn't be the same.

Thanks again for the great photos guys!

Ok....Its official...I want one of them now. After 3 weeks of constantly looking at Terzuolas I can't afford...there's actually been something out there that I can afford, and not worry about muckin up.

I don't know if this is legit on the forums or not, but does anyone know who has the best price on these buggers at the momment?

Ted
