Pics of my 110 and new 112 for comparison...

I know these knives are very common, but for those newbies like me who might be interested (and didn’t even know the 112 existed), I’ve taken a picture of my Buck folding hunters for comparison. I’ve used a Buck 110 as my hunting knife since the 1980’s. It serves that purpose very well, and I will continue to use it for field dressing duties. I’ve carried it at times depending on what activities I’m doing, but generally find it a bit large for EDC. Still, maybe it was growing up in the period when the Buck 110 was so popular, but these “Buck knives” as we used to call them, are what I think of when I think of a pocket (or belt) knife. So, I thought it might be interesting to compare a 112 size wise, and maybe find a smaller version of my 110 for EDC. After receiving the 112, I’m really happy with it, and it may become at least a member of my EDC. Also, although the pictures don’t do them justice, or show how different they really look, the scales on the two 112’ I just purchased are really nice in comparison to the scales on the 110’. That is, the color and pattern on the scales. Don’t know if Buck is tweaking their finish on the scales as the two 112s are dated 12-15-11, or if it’s just natural variation, but I really find the scales on the two 112s to be noticeably more attractive than those on all of the regular 110’s I’ve bought. I like the 112 so much that I ordered another to put away. I gave the second one I ordered to my son for Christmas. Also, although I like the nylon sheaths of the Walmart 110s more, the leather sheath that came with the 112 is very nice.

They may be "common", but they are "common" for good reason....they are great knives!!

Thanks for the pictures. :)

Doug, Thanks for the nice photos of your knives. Does a Fox hide form the back ground for the photo?
Stelth, I have that same model Duke and carry it. DM

I think it's a rabbit hide that's been colored. My kids picked up from a Native American gift shop. It does look like fox though.

Glad people aren't tired of looking at pics. I know I enjoy seeing pics of items, no matter how often I've seen them before.

I agree the Bucks are common, because they are a good knife.

Doug, loving that 112. Like you, I love my 110 but find it just too big for EDC use. For me, the issue isn't the size or weight as I honestly don't notice it too much. It's the blade. In the woods and around the yard, the blade is just fine. But around town or (yikes) in the office, it's just too big and too scary for people around me. And I get it. It's a big knife.

3" blades seem more reasonable for me for EDC use. I just picked up a Walmart tin Buck 482 for my backpacking kit - it's insanely light and just right for that use. And my wife gave me a nice used Buck 500 for Christmas this year. It's not a 112 but it's a cousin. I'll get me a 112 at some point, no doubt about it.

Yours looks just great.

pinnah,

Agreed, I try to stick with 3in size and under for edc. The 112, allows me to carry one of my favorite knives, but in a little more edc friendly size. I think I prefer the size of the 110 for field dressing deer though. I also picked up one of the Walmart tins, but I put mine on display with some other hunting/knives stuff in my "Man Cave".
