Here's some pictures of some of my new "bushcrafting" gear so to speak. I wanted to maintain a look that was more traditional, but incorporated modern items as well. Most items aren't pictured, and I still need to add some other items.

-Waxed canvas LL Bean continental rucksack
-100% wool blanket, USGI poncho liner, sportsmen tarp, and 8x10' poly tarp(bedroll/shelter)
-MSR stainless pot & lid, Snowpeak Gigapower stove, Aquamira frontier pro water filter
-Saw, Wetterlings hatchet, SAK Farmer, Blind Horse Bushcrafter!
-Map & hunting license, Suunto compass, Magellan Triton 400 GPS
-Casio Pathfinder watch also has digital compass & temp. reading
-K.I.S.S pocket kit, Deerelight LED flashlight, roughly 100' hank of 550 cord, leather work gloves, headgear, sunglasses, 1st aid & hygene kit
-Marlin model 80 .22lr rifle w/ subsonic & high velocity hollow point ammo

Regarding the LL Bean pack. I haven't been able to wear it outside yet. I have some mixed feeling about it that only time well iron out. It seems fine for a small pack. Good quality materials and stitching, etc. Has a hard plastic back plate and hip belt. But it starts to get uncomfortable on the shoulders w/ a 15+ lb load.

Mighty fine kit... I especially like the 22.. I've got the glenfield version with a squirrel carving... Love that rifle !!

My father-in-law donated to me his JC Penny version. Other then being an old rifle, it is practically new condition. It does appear to be a solid rifle. Simple and sweet action. With subsonics, it was real quiet and has zero recoil. I can't wait to go plinking and get fimilar w/ the rifle. I just need another swivel stud, and I'll throw on a sling.

Looking at the pictures, LOL, I can tell I left most items in the pack. I took pictures of the items not packed, that I'd have on my person. I'm thinking this will be fun for late spring through early winter.

Also can't decide on hydration. Maybe a camelbak water bladder and/or a shoulder slung 2qt canteen of some kind. Old school of course :)

I have that pack. Although I haven't used it enough, it tends to feel heavy. Nice quality though. Check out ll bean now. They are always having sales. Got mine on sale and I think free shipping.

I'm sure that 22 will serve you quite well.. Mine has been working quite well for me... Will have to post up a pic of mine as well...

thanks for the comments guys. I guess it will be a work in progress for now. Hopefully as the baby gets older I'll be able to get out and about more often. I'm still wondering how my love affair w/ the wool blanket will pan out. Its weight and bulk might be to much for me and this pack.
