Pics of the Commander in "action"

I have been reading the thread on the "fastest folder" and I responded to the topic with a slightly embarassed "I haven't held one yet." I am having a tough time visualizing the "wave" action and would love for someone to drop some pics in the post so that I (or we if there are other "ignorant" people) can understand the action.

I have wanted to handle one, but am unable to find one in a store nearby.

Thanks for the help--
David

The wave is a little notch cut in the spine of the blade that is intended to engage your pocket as you pull out the knife. It causes the blade to be pulled open as you withdraw the knife. Want to try one? Give me a call.

The knife rides tip up in your right front pocket. Like a Delica 98/Endura 98. As you pull the knife from your pocket(pulling to the rear) the "wave" catches on the lip of your pocket. When the "wave" snags your pocket it pulls the blade open as you finish pulling out the knife. You probably could make a knife do the same thing with a small screw in the back of your blade, or a dremel and a Delica.

It is very quick, and almost 100% realible, but it will tear up your pockets.

Blades

If you like to use belt sheaths or pouches you should be able to rig up your own wave style opening on any knife with a round thumbhole in the blade. Take a ring like the little metal ones in keychains, and tie it to a peice of paracord. Then tie or sew the para cord into the bottom of the sheath, it should be long enough that the ring just barely comes up over the top of the pouch when you pull it up. Then take a dremel with a cuttoff wheel ( make sure you have a cup of water handy to cool the blade down every once in awhile)and cut a small section of the spine out of the thumb hole. So that when the knife is held closed and tip up you have a hook that points up(towards the tip of the blade). Put the ring over the hook and put the knife into the sheath tip up. Then whenever you draw the knife the ring will catch and pull the blade open. And you don't have to worry so much about exactly how you draw the knife.

It'll feel better when it stops hurting.

I know that I've seen a better/clearer version of this picture before on the web before, but I couldn't find it again.

But anyways, here's a scan from Emerson's 1999 catalog - it shows how/why the Commander is so quick to deploy...

BTW, John, I did end up getting a satin/plain-edged Commander directly from Emerson. I like the knife a lot despite the fact that I paid full retail (which I hate doing normally) and that it's "just" a linerlock.

I bought a Marzitelli folder at the Oregon show and I really liked the blade.I cliped it on my r/h pocket and went on my way.One of my employees asked what knife I was carrying today and I reached and pulled the knife out of my pocket and WHOA it came out opened.I feel real stupid not knowing what the protusion was.Comes out neatly AND FAST.I'll try and get a pic posted.

I was at the Orlando Gunshow today and a gentleman did the "wave" with his Terzuola folder (I believe it was an ATCF). He was hooking the thumb disk on his pocket as he drew the knife.
