Pics or Opinions of Serrations on RC4

I've decided to get an RC4 to compliment my Izula. I probably would have ordered one of the Rat Pack Rc3s avail, but everything I've read says that the Rc3 is probably a waste for a pairing with the Izula. Plus I intend to get a HEST later on.
Anyhow, I have a JK Hiker that is just a hair under 4in, an 1/8 in thick, O1 tool steel, zebrawood handles, and is overall pretty classy.
I figured an RC4 would be a good replacement for longer term camping (due to increased thickness/toughness), or when just want to look mean.
I really like having serrations on a knife, and think I'll go with that option.
I haven't seen a lot of talk about the serrations on here, though, and not really sure why.
Was hoping i could get some of your thoughts on this subject.
Any action pics would be great, too. Especially close ups.
If you think i should stick with a plain edge, let me know, but please list why...
Also, I'd be ordering in Tan w green micarta, any high res shots of that would be cool...
Thanks in advance.
Plan to order on Friday...here's hoping for some Black Fri sale prices!

If you like serrations, then go for it. I've read that the serrations on the RAT knives are very user friendly when it comes to sharpening, but I personally have no experience with them.

Since you're going to use it as a camping knife, I'd recommend going for a plain version; but, if you really must have serrations, then go for it. I just don't see the need for them in a camping situation.

I think the reason that you don't hear much about the serrations is that alot of guys use their RC-4 for a woods knife and the part of the blade closest to the handle gets the most use for woodscraft. But if you like them or cut rope or cardboard alot then get them, otherwise pass. I've got 3 RC-4s and don't have serrations on any and I'm not sorry.

I think that says it all... thanks!

Yup, unless you really like serrations, don't get them. I have a RAT-3 with the combo edge and the serrations just get in the way. I have the RC-4 with the plain edge in DT and really like it. Keep it sharp and you won't have any problems.

Another option is to carry a small folder with serrations if you want to still have that option after buying a plain edged fixed blade. Or better yet a Leatherman Wave; great one handed serrated blade along with a lot of other functions and not that heavy.

Yeah, you can always carry another blade for that purpose. I've filed down all my serrated blades to plain edges and I have a S&W H.R.T. as my dedicated serrated one.

I've had both serrated and non-serrated. This is the RC4 I have now, compliments of my homeboy TTD. You still da man by the way.

I love the knife, serrated or non, but if I was starting from scratch and had the cheddar to do whatever I wanted, I would buy a plain edge RC4 and a Spyderco H1 Atlantic Salt full serrated folder for all tasks better suited for serrations.

I'm getting the RAT PACK RC3, in plain edge. I figured it was too good of a deal, and too cool, to pass up in the end. When i get married this coming year, I'm going to get all my groomsmen RC4, which will be a good excuse to get myself one then.

What? I thought it was a waste to get the RC3 since you had an Izula. :D

Don't feel bad, I had an Izula on my list as my next and dropped the order for an RP RC-3 for one of my Christmas presents. I said I didn't need an RC-3 yet because I'd be afraid I'd use my RC-4 less. Nahhh! The Izula is still on the list! You're right, the Rat Pack knife was just too good of a deal to pass up. And besides, I needed one.

Yeah, I figure I'll take my Izula camping w my JK Hiker, and use the Rat Pack RC3 as more of an EDC... Of course, I haven't gotten confirmation that I definitely will be getting a Rat Pack RC3 yet, so... things could always change.

My RC4 arrived today with a plain edge. Great looking and feeling little knife.

The only fully serrated knife I own is an original Spyderco Endura from '92. I bought it as a strictly defensive tool, so even though I carried it every day, I never cut anything with it because I didn't want to mess with bringing the teeth back up to factory sharpness. I replaced it with a plain edge after about a year.

Do you need any more groomsmen?:D I'm even originally from Ohio

As others have said, I would go with the non-serrated version. As far as the RC-3 goes, I'm really glad you are getting a rat pack knfe. I love the RC-3 and since I got mine I rarely use the 4 anymore (but I'm still glad I have it). Just my opinion but the I prefer the 3 over the 4 for 4 out of 5 tasks (I know I'm throwing out a lot of #'s  ;)) The RC-3 is currenly my favorite knife. Enjoy your new knives, and let us know what you think.
