Here's some pics, just for the sake of enjoying some pics. I have a couple requests for handle opinions in here too. Chime in, friends.

This little axe is so sweet. I'm cleaning it up and putting a new handle on for a friend. He said when he was a kid (55 or so years ago) he remembers that his dad bought this axe for his mom to use for limbing. That's just so awesome. Here's some pics just for fun. I love this piece, beautiful lines. Maybe some day he'll give it to me. ;)

Picked this old Kelly true rockaway pattern up off ebay for cheap the other day. Thanks to Operator for alerting me of it's existence and apparent lack of notice. What style of handle do you guys think this deserves? I'm thinking a full 36" straight handle, what do you think?

This Marshall Wells Northern King is a little bad ass. Nice thin profile, high centerline. Can't wait to try it out. I bet it will punch up a weight class or two. I'd say it weighs about a pound and a quarter, pound and a half (I need a scale). I think I may make a handle for this one. How long should I go? I'm thinking about 18". Will that look awkward on this little guy?

I really enjoy the plumb pc. How can I upload pics of my recent grabs?

Since you have a gold membership, you can also upload them directly to bladeforums. Use the little picture frame button on the top of the dialogue box where you type a message.

Thanks M3mphis.... I'll try that.IMAG0320.jpg

Oh, yeah, they turn out kinda small...you should try photobucket or Picassa. Picassa is a great way to organize your photos anyway.

Lovely lookers there M3mphis.

Sure the double bit is the nicest but I like the Rockaway too.

I'm still a noob on the axe front, but 18" sounds about right for the Northern King (great name too!).
What's the poll height, about 2 3/4"?

Thanks, Yorkie. The poll height is 2 1/8". Just a little guy.

Yup enjoying the pics!

Do you file the mushrooming on your restores or not? I've only done a handful and filed but wonder what the general consensus is.

great looking heads you got there memphis... that saddle axe is one sweet looking piece...

how much does that rockaway weigh? could just be the pics, but it dosent look to big/heavy... 36" could be a bit of overkill...IMO!

i think 18" sounds about right for the MW head...

and finally; yes you do need a scale:D i have a nice kitchen scale that i bought for well, the kitchen, but it works well for axe heads too;)
i think i paid 22 or 23 bucks for it at target...

I usually file them down unless it's really minor. I try not to damage stamps by filing it down generally.

The rockaway is 3.5 or so. It's a pretty wide bit.

I'd like to find a cool vintage scale. I guess I'll actually have to look for one!

How do you get 2 reply with quotes in one reply to message?

There's a little word bubble with a plus next to it next to the Reply With Quote button. That's the Multiquote button. Press that to add that quote to your list, and do so for all other quotes you wish to add except the last one. Just hit Reply With Quote for the last one and it'll open a reply box with ALL of the quotes selected this way. :)

Cool Thanks!

Good lookin axes there! I am looking forward to seeing that plumb completed

Very nice axes.
If the mushrooming isn't bad, I'll leave it be, but if it makes the axe look ugly, I'll get rid of it. When I first started working on axes, I had a small hand axe that was mushroomed terribly bad and I ground it off and it was a real surprise how good it looked. It would have been a scrap pile axe with the mushrooming.
