Today I started receiving a "the uploaded file is too large" message when trying to insert images in posts.

I didn't see a way to check media quota, and xenforo docs say the data is only available by querying the user database.

I deleted several of my old attachments, and tried logging out and then back in, but still no change.

The file I tried to attach is 2.3mb.

Any thoughts appreciated, but in the meantime I'll just upload to my server and use bbcode.

I'm not sure of the size limit; but I'm pretty sure that one is still over. I generally reduce to under 1MB (a lot of mine end up under 400kb; but I've posted at near 1MB successfully)

This seems to be an issue more and more these days. They keep jacking up the resolution on all of the cameras every year, but most of the places where you post them can't keep up. Can't really blame them too much. Server capacity isn't cheap.

mqqn mqqn ,

At the bottom of my post here, this is what Spark wrote after the last BladeForums update back in May 2021.

Myself, I only use my phone or pad to post pictures directly. As long as my photo is under 1mb, it loads instantly. I have on occasion been able to load above 1mb up to 1.4mb, but I’ve always had to resize 1.5mb and above.

If you are using a mobile device (like I do), a quick and easy way to reduce the size is:

Take your photo, then take a screenshot of your photo and post that. Works every time for me. No sizing app is needed.

Here is what Spark originally posted:

PC users have it pretty simple: as long as your photo is smaller than 3840 x 2160 and 2mB in size, you should be able to upload it to the site without issues. That said, you'll probably want to resize your photos in photoshop, paint, GIMP or some other app so you don't use up your attachment quota. I was able to copy & paste the above image directly into the thread, but your mileage may vary.

Phone users, the short answer is that you'll probably need to download an app if your phone's photo software doesn't natively support resizing / optimizing images for the web.

I use my phone exclusively, and use an app called imagesize, I remember seeing at some point the recommended size was 600x800 not sure what that comes to in mB.

Thank you, friends!

This all makes sense, but I am using the same phone and same settings all the while.

I was also thinking I could screenshot the pictures to keep the size down.

Thanks you all for taking time to respond!!

Yep, I'm a 100% phone user to and use the screenshot method as well. Every now and again I still get "the file is too large" message and all I do then is go back to my screenshot and crop it down a little bit more and that has always worked for me. ;)
