my first cold steel fixed blade, the recon tanto in aus 8. i took the worn coating off with a 600 grit sanding belt.

my friend Don gives the recon scout an underhand toss. its my favorite thrower

I was brought to cold steel through one of their proof dvds. i was hooked. i was a hormonal 15 year old who already loved knives, and i was convinced anything else made of steel was just cheap garbage that shouldnt exist. i told everybody i met who liked knives what they could do.

ive grown a lot since then in the last 7 years and realize there are reasons other knife companies are succeeding, but i still like me some cold steel :)
Ive been interested in how tough they were, thats what got me. i love using big knives to process wood and such, i rarely ever actually slice anything with a fixed blade as an edc knife, i collect certain ones and enjoy having them, sharpening them, and cut paper, cardboard, and bottles often.

I remember going camping with a lot of cold steel knives and we had a lot of fun. we enjoy having a small fire, doing some fishing, that kindathing.

My xl voyager was my first quality knife. the lock is about worn out, theres a minor nick in the handle where it got impacted from another dull edged tool, the tip is another shape from how much ive sharpened it, and ive since scotch bright finished the blade and re profiled it and decided to have it as self defense status. i also carried it to my wedding.

here i was, outside cutting bottles, and a lonely rusty brake parts cleaner can was lying there. it was missing out on all the fun. it was empty and i began stabbing and hacking away intill it was severed lengthwise. the edge on this is no thicker than 20 degrees, ill have to measure it, but its not the thicker reinforced edge designed for that kind of thing, and it did pretty well against steel

Thanks, its one of my three flagship fixed blades. looking to get more san mai knives someday. my favorite thing about cold steel is honestly how infrequently they discontinue things.

The lack of emblem on the r1 is my doing, i bought a scotch brite wheel for my drill press to de scratch my hollow ground knives and its works far better than i could have hoped. you can imagine the relieve of wiping away scratches and past mistakes to be fully restored, beautiful and without blemish of such an expensive and wonderful blade
