Not sure if I spelled the second model correct:o. I traded for a HC and wound up trading it for a watch the same day. Well, it's the only swamp rat I've ever handled. I'm requesting that someone with both a HC and a HRLM post a picture with the two next to one another for comparison. It really helps me out, thanks very much.

One question worth asking would be if you are getting the 3.5" HC or the very rare and limited 4.0" HC???

The 3.5" HC is the MUCH more common HC and the only one sold through regular release. The standard 3.5" release HC had Black G10 scales.

To the best of my knowledge (???), the 4.0" HC was only released at shows (can't remember which one) and I only recall seeing it in black micarta (???). Those along with the same black micarta version sold at that show said 2008 Special Edition on the right side of the blade.

My HRLM is stripped and has a few modification such as an enlarged choil and altered thumb ramp, but here is an old picture I have of my HRLM with my HC's on file:

Thanks, that really helps. It was black micarta and it was numbered. No SE 2008 on the back though.

The HRLM has a larger handle - both taller and longer than the HC.

For me, the HC's handle is just a bit too small - whereas the HRLM's handle fits VERY nicely. The HRLM's handle is pretty much identical to the RMD's handle behind the ramp and guard. But, the ramps are different between the HRLM and RMD.

I have not yet tried, but I have often thought that if I were to grind the grip area at the index finger area forward into the guard about 0.25" or so and with a slightly tighter radius, I might be able to increas the handle length to be more suitable to my hands and my liking. I have fairly large hands though. Many might like the HC's handle as is (????).

Outside of the handle, the HC's design is GREAT!

As is, I wish for a bit longer handle. For me, the Vex is the "One" for smaller knives off the shelf. The Vex is not as sexy looking as the HC, but it is a very comfortable and functional design.
