I say go for it Jack. It'll be more beneficial than not and can fairly easily be removed if you don't like the look.

I can see why the Toby was a good seller, just fills the bill for many tasks. Especially with the spear point.

What are your thoughts on adding a small cut out (sharpening choil?) at the end of the blade to allow the whole blade to be sharpened?

I like the sharpening cutout, I have it on my personal EDC.
