I can't get my hands on a camera so bear with me. For 1 year plus my only knife which I carried was a Case Peanut. The first one I took with me was stolen by the doc at the BAS in Camp Liberty (Iraq). I received several others by folks back home and stuck with my original YHCV version.
With this I was able to take care of ALL my needs both at the FOB, and in sector (although everyone made fun of me for it). This included everything from opening mail to cutting wire, to dressing out critters. I once even cut up a tire for a local.
It worked beautifally for everything. All you had to do is THINK what you want to do then carefully proceed from there. I will admit something in the form of a smaller stockman would have been a better choice but once everyone said I wouldn't be able to go for a deplyment without something bigger, I decided to be stubborn and keep only this.
As it is I learned quite a bit of blade geometry, learned that although it feels funny in hand the 18 series stockman would have been far superior. Althouh I have no use or love for a clip blade and prefer a spear the 18 clip (turkish?) is superb. I came to this conclusion after I got back and my kid brother got me a 6.5318 CV then used it on my dad's first red fox.
The CV blade held up even tho I have toxic sweat, all you got to do is take care to wipe it off before bed (I used alcohol occasionally) then once a week oil the blade (not just the joint) with food grade mineral oil.
If I went camping or for small game, I wouldn't hesitate to use the is as it WILL work no doubt. To keep it fom fall out of our ACU pockets I just carried my hanky over it, the same as I do now with my new stockman.
My list of items always on me while there: peanut, p-38, sears 4 way screwdriver, cheap sears pocket stone, zippo, k&m matchcase, compass, 50' twine 25' 550cord, electric tape watch, hanky arc aaa flashlight
My list here at home: stockman, stone, lighter, twine, p-38, 4 way sd, watch, hanky arc aaa flashlight.
It's gonna take a while to get used to carrying my new knife after all this time with my peanut, but that's a different story.

Awesome, you should post this in the Traditional forum as well. People will be glad to hear from you.

God Bless

roadteez, don't bump for no reason. If you like something about the post, tell us what that is.

It's really good to hear how resourceful you can be by getting by with a minimal knife.
Must give a lot of pride in being able to do the job alright and surprise yourself&others into the bargain.

yep and now I'm getting used to carrying a "boat anchor" stockman :D

Peanuts are great knives and have proven that they are "enough knife" for many people over and over again.Once you get used to carrying a pattern it is hard to change because the new knife never feels right.I am glad to hear you went back to the peanut, now its time to start collecting them.

Funny you should say that, when I bellyached about mine being took from me everyone I know sent me at least 1. I think I have 3 YHCV , 1 YHSS 1 stag SS 1 bonestag CV, and 2 or 3 bone CV, and the utility 6220SS.
My carry knife is the YHCV (3220), my dress knife is the Stag (5220).

You're the guy who got my friend his Buck knives. Thanks 10000x. He's still in Iraq, but will be returning home in March.
I drove down to NY and saw a Peanut up close, wow!!! It's smaller than my Buck 309.
I hear you don't carry a sheath knife even in combat, why not, it would be instantly get-at-able. The size would be more useful. Or weren't you allowed to have a sheath-knife?

I hope he stays safe until his return. I got free shipping & a military discount, so no big deal. Besides you reimbursed me anyway.
It's small but mighty. (kind of like pug farts)
We could carry sheath knives, I just have no real use for one.
