this is where i do my minnow trappin', in a fresh beaver pond, i can get 30-40 minnows over night no problem in one trap.
anyone else trap their own minnows? i find it's a great way to force myself out, the amount of money i make or save isn't really the point at all haha i'd do it either way.
and a few pics while i on the way, just playing with a point and shoot camera 'macro' setting.
there is a string of 5 or 7 beaver ponds this size with small streams connecting them. pretty country.

what do you do with the minnows? Is there fish and game regulations on your actions?

use'em as bait! around here a person can legally have one minnow trap. with permits they can have more (mostly for people running fishing camps, or selling them at bait shops) it is ofcourse regulated. but an ordinary citizen is free to have one if they please, without permits or anything of the sort.

I often trap minnow in the pond that is in the woods in my back yard. Or my backyard when it floods. I take these minnows and go fishing in the river with them. Never fail to catch something with them. (Well, not often)

Great pics, too.

Great pics thanks for sharing. I see you got fifteen posts, welcome to the forum. I have a question for you or who ever. I don't catch minnows because I prefer lures, but if I were to catch them, do you bait the funnel trap? A buddy who catches them all the time said he puts a stick of wriggles wintergreen gum in it, said it works great, I found it odd. just curious.

haha interesting! never heard that one, maybe an experiment for next week.
thanks for the greeting too, been lurking for a while, so i felt it was time to step up.
usually just a slice of bread in there overnight, never fails. got lotsa other buddies running fishing camps, they all do the same. works like a charm

Good to know thanks, let me know about the gum if you try it, just in case I ever get a minnow trap. My buddy was dead serious, not the kind of guy to screw with you, said it worked.

i am absolutely gonna try it. easier to pack in a pack of gum than an old loaf of bread haha i hope it works! i'll post the results

All my traps were stolen. Use to set a trap out before work, in a creek. Id cover it with rocks to hide it from kids . After work Id go for catfish or crappie..
