After a year of learning and waiting, and stuff like that- my forge is built!

My forge (it's a horizontal forge, but it's sitting vertically while the ITC-100 sets

Now then- a few questions:
1. How long does it generally take ITC-100 to settle and dry
2. Is my broken to considered a shop wound?
3. Whada yall think?

Peter, the forge looks nice and the workstation setup is a danged good idea!

I must admit, though, that I don't understand the burner. Just how does it work? Personally, I don't know if I like the idea of galvanized pipe at the hot end.....zinc fumes are very toxic.

Nice job. I know you're anxious to start after all the effort you've put into the research and construction. Congrats! :)

I see your dogs get away with being all over the furniture, too! :D

I've already removed the coating on the forge side of the pipe.

The mig tip goes through a drilled hole in the back of the T, and the air goes through either side of the T. The plugs have holes drilled all over, so if too much air is coming into the mix, you put in the plugs choke it. The more that the plugs are screwed into the T, the less air that gets in, and when it is mostly unscrewed, lots of air gets in. The reason for this round about way is that this was created using spare parts.

As far as the dog go- the Ridgey pretty much owns that couch, and the dogs have a habit of pushing people off of the couch, or sitting on the people.

Thank you, Peter, I understand the plugs, now! Now they're "restrictors". :)

You've put a lot of thought into all this, and are to be commended.

And I agree, dogs do tend to want to "own" the complete piece of furniture. My 110 pound wife and 90 pound AmStaff battle eaqch other for "their half" of the bed every night. Why is it that dogs can't sleep down the middle, but have to lean into someone and then push? LOL

Thanks Fitzo!

My 3 dogs, a jack russel, a mini jack, and the ridgey have a habit of hopped on some one's bed together. The two little ones sleep at the foot under the covers while the big one lies accross. I guess that dogs just have to let you know that they're there, and that they're part of the family.

Nancy is at the sink at the moment washing some dishes. The dog is sitting next to her leaning against her legs. LOL Dogs certainly are a part of the family!

Wow that looks really good. What material did you use for insualtion? Is it standard inswool and Satanite Refractory Mortar?

Report in on how well that ITC -100 works out. I am thinking about ordering some. How much of it did it take you do line your forge?

Thanks! It's just 1" of Kaowool and a very thin coating of ITC-100. It only took a pint to cover the 12" long and 12" diameter pipe, as well as the door and back.

I'll have the report in tomorrow about the performance. Everyone who's used it has liked it though.

Peter, looks good so far lets see some pic'sof the forge fired up:D

Have fun playing with the hot steel.

I do not forge yet Peter, only a bit of stock removal but I am a tradesman so I can appreciate what you have made there. Looks pretty good.

Nice dogs too.

How is that big toe doing?:D

Nice work Pete. I'm still doing my research on one but now seeing the finished product of someone who was in the same position as me not to long ago gives me something to look forward to. How much did that anvil cost? Good luck with all your future metal bangin spark flyin adventures. Good lookin dogs. I got 2, one who might as well be an old cat and one, who is hes not careful, will be testing the sharpness of my knives. Lol, naw I love um. Hope your toe feels better.

Logan

P.S. This is going to show how much of a newb I am, but how do you post pictures. I'd like to get some feed back on the knives I'm making.

SHE BURNS!!! Running at 3PSI she got going the entire forge heated to forging heat and ready in arounda minute! My camera is dead, and my computer is chronically crashing, so I can't take pics at the moment.

The ITC-100 works great!

Lima Kilo- either put
tags or click on the button on the toolbar that has a picture of a mountain on it.

The anvil is found here: http://www.oldworldanvils.com/anvils/anvilstake_rect.html (the $34 one)

My toe is doing well- thanks guys!

AWsome that is great to hear!

I was expirimenting today with mine, and you may want to try this. I got my forge to temp with it on 2-3psi, and then brought it down to .5psi. At .5 psi it was cooking!! I ran it for about 2hrs on less than 10lbs. I wasn't even able to run out of gas; I had to turn it off because it was time to leave.

I don't see how you got your satanite to look so good. Mine seems to keep flaking off. :(

I'll see about dropping the pressure once the heat is up J. The flaking might be one of the key differences between ITC-100 and satanite. Mine got kind of flakey, but nothing too bad, and it's still on there. I ordered another pint for touchups and maybe another project though.

BTW: I made a door for my forge using a regular door hinge (I'll have pics tomorrow), and a regualr latch.

Did you use inswool to insulate that door?

Did you coat your forge with satanite befor using the ITC- 100, or was that with out satanite?

How do you get the heat to stay consistent? it seems like with that concrete that it would heat slowly and you'd have to wait for the whole thing to heat. Then repeat the process to cool or increse temp. Or is that that insulation ya'll were talkin about?
