I just discovered that the Buckcote 110 came with the gray colored blade and N/S bolsters. I'd sure like to see some good pictures of that one. I think I need one, so the search begins. Anyone??

It looks like the coating of an AG 110?

The one in the catalog picture looks as dark as the AG, but Habbie's looks alot lighter in color. Maybe it's just the lighting in the picture.

Not to change the subject but what became of the one angled edge?

Here's something from Joe. I don't know if he's referring to the coating or the edge geometry.

"I was involved with the field testing when we were first considering using this technology. I saw how well it worked time and time again. I would go on hunts and give a Ion Fusion knife to someone and everytime, they were impressed. We tested it at a hog ranch and the guy that did all the gutting and skinning consitantly got 3 to 4 times the life out of a knife with Ion Fusion. I saw all of this but personally i did not care for it. I am not sure why and there are other hunters hear at Buck that love it. I guess not enough folks warmed up to the idea because sales did not justify keeping it in the line anymore.
Anyway i hope that answer helps.

The color in the catalog is too dark

Here's a better copy from the original.

In comparison with the other two blades you can see
taht the catalog shows the blade too dark

The Greycote blades are not as dark as the AG 110s Dave. I do not have a 110 as they are getting really hard to acquire, but I have a couple here of greycote blades compared to a light gold 110:

Also a grey 425 compared to a gold one ;)

I really like my Ion/cote Bucks. I think the chisel grind turned most people off. That and well, because of the edge geometry they tend to be a little more of a gentle use blade. They will cut like no tomorrow, and take a razor edge, but when cutting near hard materials (bone) they tend to roll the edge. I EDC one of those little 425 mini bucks with the champagne cote blade, and it is fantastic for cardboard and the like. It holds an edge for (almost) forever. ;)

I bought mine from this guy named Jim from Wisconsin...I don't think I have a good pic though.

I have a gray Buckcote 110 blade installed in a 186 handle. Because the surface hardness is around 92 RWc, I use the blade as a finishing steel for softer blades including the other Buckcote colors. Because of the chisel sharpening, the Buckcote blade is inherently twice as sharp as its double beveled cousins.

That's a great idea!! I'll try it out as soon as possible :)

Thanks,
