Hmmm,
Doesn't look anything like the U2 that I've been making and marketing for the last 8 years.
Who makes it?

I saw the topic and thought it was referring to Kit's.

Bonjour Kit,

this little knife is swedish.
the blade used Swedish iron before to be transformed into Japanese steel.
They use laminated steel. the core is in "SGPS" a 'personnal' powder hard steel (62HRC).
The link for this knife is
http://fallkniven.com/us-u2.htm
(at the bottom of the page)

I am testing that little "classical" knife for the French magazine "La Passion des Couteaux". No clip, no hole, no stud, no disc, no flipper, no 'new" lock, but good spirit! Exactly what a snobbish knifenut like myself will use in these sheeple days ! ;-D

cheers

JM

Bluesman gave the "Kit Carson Virus" sometimes ago. I am a huge fan of your art!

Looks like a nice little pocketknife. That steel sounds very interesting too!

JM,
I have had and used the U2 for a few months...unbelievable. I also have a Norwegian Forest (Wood) Cat, Sadie. Great knife, great cat!
Cheers,
Steve

I don't *need* a U2, but am going to have to buy one because of all the rave reviews and the great price.

This is a very interesting thread un the u2. How does this knife compare with the Falkniven modem P, as ive been considering the latter. Several aspects of the P I like are the blade shape, the fact that it is VG10, and the micarta handle material.
Anxious to hear your thoughts.

Jay the best way to figure how the U2 is cutting machine is to put it to test hard.
This little knife is making shadow to a lot of other expensive folders!

When my famous (censored) failed the U2 passes it with flying colors

(by email I can tell you what the "censored" were !)

cheers

JM ;)

Thanks Nemo, this may well push me over the edge to pick up one of the U2
haven't gotten a new knife in quite a while ;)

The U2 looks like a fine knife and I've been hearing about it for awhile, but I don't see what makes it so unique. Not being able to play with one in real life, can someone enlighten me?

It combines aspect of older classic designs (no clip, nail nick) with a modern powder high wear stainless steel. It features a very efficient blade profile and overall clean and functional design. Fairly unique when compared to most modern tacticals.

Maybe my question is OT...
but otherwise i try ,it is a Fallkniven with the same steel.

The Fallkniven Tre Kronor TK3 Pocketknife is burning under my nails since i saw it the first time. Im sure i cant resist forever.

What angle (edge) do you think is possible with this steel for mainly light (soft) cutting? I guess 5-7 deg. per side should be possible at this hardedness
without secondary edgebevel.

Any expiriences at this angle?

Thanks and Greetings to all

I believe Mr. Stamp went to 10 degrees per side in his review, amolo71.

I switch a U2 with a Ritter Mini-Grip in my work carry. Great little knife. Impressed me (whatever that's worth).

It is going to be very hard to sharpen the knife at that angle because you are approaching the angle of the primary grind. Generally you can only go that low if the primary is hollow and you end up sharpening the knife flat to the stone. I have taken Wilson's S30V knife almost that low (just under 10) with no microbevel and it works well slicing abrasive media. In general though there a many benefits to a very small micro-bevel for a general utility knife and few drawbacks. I would suggest taking it down in increments and watching the performance and noting the gain in cutting ability vs an issue with edge fragility.
