Tomorrow I will break in 7587 pieces that Chinesse BS of PID I have .No way I will spend even one minute more on it to learn how it works !! And I canceled order from USA for that Omega S....!! Is there any device with two button that can do that simple task ?? One button to set desired temperature and another one to START oven to do that simple job ?? I don t care how much it will cost ? If there is not I will manually operated my oven for that TEN minutes !

An oven control for HT needs more info than just the set point. That is why you have to program it. That said, the easiest to use unit would be something like the TAP controller from Evenheat.
TAP - https://www.evenheat-kiln.com/tap-showcase?c=4&control=rampmaster&pg=controls
The Set-Pro is also pretty simple to use. - http://www.debmark.com/Kilns/Evenheat/Set-Pro Control.shtml

There are some low cost ( $100-200) units listed on Ebay that are called plug and play, but they may still need some parameters set initially. From there it is as you describe … enter the set point and hit start.

I have one from Auber instruments, it’s pretty simple. 4 buttons: Set, up, down, and cursor right.

It’s the “syl” model.

Thanks ! I will look at it when my head is clear  I give today that Chinese BS to one friend to study it a bit , when he returns it to me I will use hammer on it .........big one ! I'll wait a few days , the friend who sold me his furnace will come to explain me how his furnace work . Maybe after that it will be easier for me to understand all this ....

Thanks Stacy , but no.....I stop reading about that TAP controller after I read this .......... The TAP Controller allows the choice of using pre-loaded firing schedules (glass and ceramic). Once created and saved firing schedules are easily modified if desired
The amount of time the thermocouples have been exposed to high temperatures ??? Diagnostic ? I don t want them .I want device out of box ready to use it and to heat treat STEEL not to baking ceramic , calibrated and with everything that goes with that ...like TC and SSR .........After I connected it to oven .....power on , set temperature and press RUN , is that too much ?
Correct me if I'm wrong ...what PID do is simple turn heat element on/of , right ? So what if I use for temp. measurement in oven high temperature K-type thermometer like this one on picture , take cold beer , keep one finger on on/of button for HT elements and watch reading on display ?? It is HT oven not tempering oven , all last several minutes after all ??

No, that's not what a PID controller does. Proportional-Integral-Derivitive. The controller allows you to tune how precisely the temperature is controlled based on feedback from the thermocouple. You can set a PID to swing 20 degrees over and under and power on no more than 30 seconds or you can set it to run in 1 second pulses if the temp is off by one degree. Or anything in between.

Or you can figure out how to use the auto tune feature on the one you have. They're really simple once you get it figured out.

If it was a light bulb, a solenoid valve, or motor your system would work. But a HT oven isn't On and OFF. FWIW, most PIDs will run fine with no adjusting of the pre-set parameters in an On and OFF device, like running a forge burner. It is things like ramp rate and soak times that make it more complicated in a HT oven. The auto-tune function will try and learn the program for you in some cases. A good idea is to run Auto-program a couple times and see if things smooth out as far as temperature swings.

Not learning something isn't the way to succeed in knifemaking. Sit down with someone who can guide you through using the oven and you will learn much more than smashing something in anger.

Honestly any pid controller worth its salt will need to be set up. I have quite a few and really LOVE the tap controller. Besides TAP I use watlow for everything else. The ez zone is my preference from watlow. If your wanting somthing set up and ready to go then you will need to buy a completly built oven.

I agree with Stacy that refusing to learn is no way to grow as a blade smith. Case in point when I built my cnc plasma cutter I had to learn Linux and Linux programming plus the ins and outs of cnc control. Build a controller and get more gray hairs. It was a 5 month long learning curve but man am I glad I did it.

We are talking about a simple pid controller. We are more the willing to help if your willing to learn.
