I had a request for a camp knife and skinner combo set but the sheath request had me guessing for awhile. The request was for both knives to have individual sheaths that could be carried seperately but that could also be connected to each other to be carried together. I worried over this one for awhile but finally came up with this...........

I still have a long ways to go on my leatherwork. It certainly isn't my strong suit but this should be pretty serviceable. I tend to overbuild most things but this sheath is carrying a lot of weight (relatively speaking) when both knives are attached.

I still have to punch a couple of holes in the tab at the bottom for a leg tie down.

Critiques and criticisms welcomed and encouraged.

Thanks for looking.

Mr. Cohea, coming from you I'll take that as a big compliment. I just walked in from the shop where I was working on a sheath like the tutorial you have posted up about a frontier type sheath.

I'm very pleased with the way mine turned out even though it isn't as nice as yours. Your tutorial was VERY helpful. Thank you for taking the time to post it up. I'll try to post a couple of pictures of that sheath once everything is done.

Thanks,

I kindly like it... the attachment idea is unique.

I'm fixing to ask a question, though: It looks as though the "belt" that ties the smaller sheath to the body of the larger might slip down and maybe even slide off of the large sheath. Is it just friction that holds the sheaths together? or.... is there a hidden snap or loop or something that prevents it from sliding down?

Another thing I like about it that I never thought of before is leaving the "tab" of leather at the bottom where your thong hole will be. Something I want to do on my sheaths is put some hollow rivets through the sheath (ala Sharpshooter sheaths) but I can;t find them long enough to go through 3 layers of 7-8oz leather. Tandy sells some hollow rivets (I can;t think of the proper name for them right now) that would easily go through one layer of leather. Having a protruding "tab" is a pretty good idea.

Stretch, the lower loop is just held on with friction. It isn't likely to slip down since the upper edge of the top loop is wet molded at the fold and it also has the keeper strap below that. The leather would have to wear out a LOT for the belt loop to slide.

I'm not sure that I've ever seen any hollow rivets as long as your describing. The only idea that comes to mind is to use copper or aluminum tubing and flare the ends. Similar to how Busse knives attaches their handle slabs.

Thanks for the comments.
