The REKAT Pikuni is a good example of how to design a knife.
The REKAT Pikuni is a good example of how NOT to grind an edge.
At least I didn't pay full price.

I must have received one that was returned by a dissatisfied customer. There is not enough metal is certain places to fix this one without drastically changing the shape and size of the blade.

There was a problem with the very first batch of Pikuni's. Try doing a search, I seem to remember that Rob Simonich(?) offered to regrind the blades of the first batch that we not correct. REKAT also so said
for customers to return them to be reground. I don't know if that still holds true, but I would E-mail or call Bob Brothers at REKAT.

EasyRider -- by first, am guessing you mean those Mike T is selling so cheap right now? Damn, been thinking about it off and on for last 2 days.

Thanks,

Bugs, I'm pretty sure that if you got a Pikuni and the grind was screwed up, REKAT would take care of it. You might try doing a search, I may have my facts all wrong.

I don't have a Pikuni myself, it seems a tad small for my tastes. Let us know what you decide.

The rounded "safety tip"(?)is an interesting touch

Complete List
1-It does not have the stone-washed finish.
2-REKAT and Simonich logos are faintly etched at the top.
3-the tip is the worst that I have seen on any knife.
4-the edge grind varies from 1/8" to 3/64"
5-There is a 1/4" long chip out of the back of one of the G-10 scales on the tang side.

Otherwise this is a very nice knife

Well before I read this post, I ordered a Pikuni from Mike because of the excellent price and the excellent things I had heard about it. Since it should be here soon, does anyone have any suggestions about inspecting the knife, or are the possible short-comings very obvious?

Thanks, Dale.

I bought a Pikuni about a month ago. It's a great little worker, one of the best small fixed blades on the market. Great design, excellent steel, well manufactured, and a nice RiverCity concealex sheath. Actually had my pick from about 6 different Pikuni's. I eyeballed each one and might as well as closed my eyes and grabbed one cause they all looked the same. I've not had direct experience with REKAT customer service but many have posted positively of their experiences.

Well, haven't decided yet for sure, but think I'll postpone the Pikuni awhile. Found another source for nearly same price Mike's asking. Also, am buying at least 3 knives and a cane, and possibly a 4th knife I came across on the forum today. Plus, was sucked into the SAK wave at 1SKS today. Got 2 plus a hat! Lost a pretty nice SAK years ago. Had lots of the bells and whistles, not as many as the Champ, but quite a few. Didn't go quite so fancy this time. Really disapointed Spark didn't get any of the 4 3/8 types with the locking blade and wood saw. Got to be the best inexpensive little pocket survival knife out there. Oh well.

Anyhow, I have a sheath on the way from Normark for my CRKT companion. Want to give it a chance, and see if wearing a small fixed blade meets my needs/style. Still, would really like to have a knife with D2E and see what it's like. That price is hard to beat for the steel and design. Just not enuff $$ for all I want. I know, old song, frequently sung here.

Mike E-mailed me shortly after I sent him an E-mail about this problem and he promised to visually inspect the new one. Thanks Mike!
