A little weird, but this past weekend I was sick with the flu and while laying in bed with a clouded mind. I thought to myself, "this pillow sucks", and the more I thought about it I realized that I have neglected one of the most used pieces of gear I own. So now I'm in for a quality pillow, any suggestions? nothing specific really, just something that doesn't clump up or go flat after a month or so.

I always liked goose down, but they make some memory foam pillows now that are nice.

People seldom realize, you spend 1/3 of your life in bed (more than your car) - it's worth making a decent investment in.

My wife gave me an Oxygen Pillow (that is the actual brand name) for Christmas. They are expensive and you have to get fitted for them (small, medium, large, hard, soft, etc.). They do make a difference. My son, who has sleep issues has one now and says it has helped him sleep better. Three people at my wife's business swear by them and that is why my wife thought I might like one. It's not like it was a sleep miracle for me, but it has helped me sleep a bit better and more comfortably. Anything helps when you're (me) getting older. Mike

They look pretty nice, this is going off zero pillow science knowledge though

I can see the benefits of buying a high dollar pillow like those, my brother could definently use one. However, i'm only a college student and can no way justify that amount of cash on a pillow.

i like firm large pillows from bed bath and beyond. you can spend from 30 bucks to over 100 bucks on a good pillow. bed bath and beyond sends coupons in the mail which helps.

Check out the pillows over at arrowhead equipment if you want one to last for a decent price. I sweat a lot (wife's like a furnace) & I breakdown pillows pretty fast. Like If I don't rotate pillows out every 2 weeks, they're toast in a month or 2. I spend around $30 at a time in Sears or Bed, bath, & beyond.

I have spent lots of money and lots of time trying to find THE pillow. I've tried memory foam, ergonomic pillows, firm pillows, soft pillows, pillows for side sleepers, pillows for back sleepers. The closest I have found is a Cannon Jumbo Bed Pillow we found at Sears. They are relatively cheap. My Wife likes them too. After we had tried the first set out and decided we liked them, we went back and bought 4 more, just in case they stopped carrying them.

The Ikea foam pillows are quite good. its a cellulose foam instead of latex. About the only problem we ever had with them was when traveling, if they were left in the cold for too long, they froze into a brick and took forever to thaw out. I liked it much better than memory foam since it was contoured, but didn't trap my head.

I have been using the buckwheat hull filled pillows for ~10 years now and greatly prefer them to any other filling that I have tried.

I got one at a mattress store when we replaced our mattresses that is 1/2 memory foam, 1/2 regular pillow filling that is very comfortable.

The wife uses a Tempur-pedic Symphony Which has different side angles on one side and is more like a regular pillow on the other. She loves it.
I've got a Tempur Pedic Cloud It is a hollow memory foam stuffed with smaller pieces of memory foam so it doesn't have that "stiff" feel to it when you first put your head down. Had these for alt least 3 years now and still going strong. Aint cheap but well worth the money spent.

You may want to just buy more pillows. Dust mites and such live in your pillow and the older it is the more saliva and sweat are absorbed into the pillow providing better habitat for the little buggers. My opinion is that you shouldn't necessarily spend a lot on a single pillow but to buy more of them over time. Replacing them on a regular basis.

I've tried down, buckwheat and tempur-pedic, but the one that I've liked the longest is the "My Pillow". My wife agrees. I sleep on my back and on my side and it works well for both (I think there's 3 different sizes). We bought ours at the fair when they first came out, so they have already lasted a few years and that's with my wife putting them in the washer and dryer every week- and they're about half the price of the tempur-pedics that I needed to replace every year! I do love my tempur-pedic mattress, though.

I have the My Pillow also and found it be pretty nice. Mike

Memory foam pillows are great. I used to love the down feather pillows, but they deform quickly and get "packed". This makes it hard to have uniform neck support. I don't like the 1 piece memory foam pillows much, I prefer the ones made from the odds and ends. Makes for a fuller and more supportive pillow. Tumble it with no heat in the dryer for a few minutes and it gets very full again in no time. They run about $40 for a set of 2.
One other thing my wife did was buy the allergen resistant covers. You unzip them and put the pillows inside. This keeps all kinds (...all kindz) of dust, sweat, slobber, and other junk from infiltrating your pillow. Hard to believe but you sweat like crazy while asleep, while not gallons it's a steady pace.

I sleep on my stomach. I stopped using a pillow about 6 years ago. My arms don't seem to get hot in the same way pillows always do. That means less time spent messing around with pillows and more time spent sleeping. No going back for me.

If you have feather / down pillows that are clumping, just send them out for cleaning, there are feather specialists.
