Pilot Survival Knife Modifications

Here's something that I did a few days ago to my Pilots Survival Knife. In my mind, it gave the knife MUCH more value, as it went from broken and bone stock to rock solid and customized to my own personal tastes. Here's what I did:
1. I removed the original coating from the blade.
2. I reprofiled the blade so that the secondary bevel was mostly eliminated, leaving me with something close to a scandi grind. this DRASTICALLY improved the fine cutting ability of the blade, taking it from a moderately sharp crowbar to a passable bushcraft blade.
3. I reground the tip to a point, as it was broken when I first got the knife.
4. I put shims under the guard to tighten up the washers that make up the handle, and to keep it from rattling.
5. to finish the project, I put a patina on the blade with spicy brown mustard.

Here's what I need some help with:
1. Is it worth rounding off the guard all the way around/ removing the top portion?
2. Is there a better, more permanent way to shore up the handle? I simply used some scraps of glove leather that I had on hand.

I appreciate any help and advice you guys can give me here!

Here's how it turned out

I'd love to see the finished work but it looks like the links you posted are to the hard drive on your computer. You can post them for free on imageshack and the images will be viewable.

You need to put your pics up online at photobucket or similar and post your images from that.
