Hi, Pete here. (Canada.)I modified my PSK. Shaved off the saw part and made it flat for a coupla reasons.1) Batonning,2)scraping,3) just to have a useful, flat surface. Also. ground down the top part of the guard so it doesn't interfere with using the knife so much. I left a bit protruding as a thumb rest, and the transition fron guard to blade looks and feels better. She got a touch-up on the 1" sander and buffer as well. Much more practical now in the bush,on a time proven knife.

I bought my Ontario PSK about 27 years ago and somehow still have it. I love seeing these knives...

I like that  I've got one of the modern repros made by Camillus and I've been thinking it might be a candidate for modification (although maybe not now since Camillus is history and this also might be history).

Back to your modification, I'm not sure I would grind the teeth off the back, those might be useful if I have to tear through an aluminum aircraft skin :D

I'm very much in favor of grinding off the back of the guard. That just gets in the way and serves no useful purpose, even for a defensive weapon. But it becomes much more useful as a camp knife without that extra guard part.

I did the same thing to my Camillus Kabar M2 USMC knife. Took off that back guard and shaved the handle down some to fit my hand and then varnished it again. Much more handy, although that 7-inch blade is a bit much.

Nice work, thanks for the pics :D

Nice job. I had an Ontario model back in the day. The roundish handle also sucked on these. When I was a kid I tried to tighten the giant nut (endcap) with a huge crescent wrench on mine. I broke the endcap right off the tang! My oldman heli-arced it back on,and then he made me a new handle from bondo. We wrapped the handles with skateboard tape. I lost it a few months later. I miss that knife, and my oldman.

I figured the flat would be more useful. I don't think I'll be cutting an egress from an aircraft ever. I thought maybe the sawback could be used for notches on trap triggers, but it just kept being an annoyance if anything, so I shaved it off.
