I recently purchased what was advertised as a Pilot's Survival Knife from the Korean War.
It took a while but I was able to verify that it is genuine.
I have a couple questions though.
What is the best way to sharpen a knife that has a full flat grind?
And...do these knives have any collector value?

Thanks for reading and for your answers guys.

If it was verified as genuine shouldn't you be the one who knows its collectors value?

Also, read the link above. They are the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

Far from being an expert, but if you are interested in a historical knife as a collector piece I would think the worst thing you could do is sharpen it. If your interest is in collector value leaving as is is probably the best idea, if on the other hand you are interested in using this that is a different story.

Get a real knife sharpening system

That way your used knife's edge would be properly maintained
And it value hopefully would not drop so badly otherwise.

Amazing that we survived for the first 99.96% of recorded history without a real knife sharpening system. :p

Does your knife look like this one?

Flat ground blades sharpen just like any other, nothing special. They are valuable to collectors but less known than the Marbles version from the late 1950's that later became the standard. You will often see them misidentified as a WWII Mark 1 which they are not.:thumbup:
