Need a new knife. My job is in QC and I cut open finished good cases for 8 hours. Mostly strapping tape but some inadvertent cardboard contact will occur. My last EDC, a Buck Prince, was a bit small and I sold it. My interim Leatherman Micra just ain't cutting it.....pardon the pun, but is a fine tool for its intended purpose and will get relegated to the key ring. Does this knife exist?
*Easy one-handed (right-handed)opening
* 3" drop point blade length maximum, although prefer 2.5-2.75, purely because we're subjected to empty our pockets going on the job and our security "sheeple" give the "raised eyebrow/faux gasp" response to anything exceeding 4" closed like your "pulling heat". I know this criterion probably limits some of the most obvious candidates (Sages, Delicas, Natives, Minigrips, Kershaws because >3" is where it is at. It's not a show stopper... just a preference.
*approx. $100 max. purely becuse I'll probably be trying to swap a knife of that trade value, although I know there are many offerings that will fit the bill for less.
*Prefer a higher end steel, solely because it should be available in the size knife and price point I'm describing.
Now, what do I need?

I'm sorry, but you work in a warehouse opening boxes and security won't let you use a knife? What does management expect you to use? Your teeth? It's just sad the state we've come to with fear about knives.

I'd suggest a Spyderco, Tenacious or Persistance. Good, solid worker. Cheap enough to loose without to many worries.

The Benchmade 755 MPR (about $200 brand new) is a great knife, but it's pretty bulky in the pocket, and the blade isn't exactly a slicer. I would suggest it for more HD tasks, but not for cutting tape and cardboard all day.
I would recommend a Spyderco Delica. It's small, lightweight, and discrete to carry, yet has plenty of cutting edge and is SHARP straight from the factory. You can find them in several different colors and for only about $50-$60 brand new.
If you're looking for something even cheaper, I'd go with a Buck Nobleman for $20.

Buck Lux Pro: 2 1/2" s30v blade, flipper, framelock, carbon fiber scales, and can be found under $80.

I would just go for the Delica, it fits your specs and its a great knife. For $100 or so, you could get one with FFG and one serrated to see which one you like better or rotate them at work.

My choice would be Sanrenmu 763. Solid grip, small and easy to sharpen, and available to me at low cost. Steel is same as Tenacious, but at lower RC (57) while Tenacious is 59-60.

If you are in US, perhaps a Persistence is better, at a higher pricepoint. Another choice might be Coldsteel new Triad Lock series. The hold out, voyager, american lawman has smaller size among the lines. AUS8 is not bad, many say Coldsteel does it well and also easy to sharpen.

The cold steel Micro Recon 1 seems like a good key chain knife. It should not shock the sheeple too much and it can definitely cut tape and cardboard. But it seems you may be looking for something a little more high end.

Sounds to me like you are looking for a spyderco delica 4 ffg or caly 3 or Ritter mini grip. A s30v g10 leek would fit the bill as well as would kershaw's speedform 2 with elmax.

Why not just get a BM mini-grip or Spyderco Delica 4? They are both just under 3" and can be had for well under $100. They should be great knives capable of handling what you're asking.

Maybe a kershaw skyline, it has flipper's, 3 1/8 in blade, pretty good steel and all for way under 100 bucks. Also I think its a drop point.
