Hi. Because I have too much time on my hands today, I thought I would post up some glamour shots of my new Shallot. Those stainless scales were begging to be polished, so I obliged them. That and because they would match my watch that way.:D No, I am not really that vain, though I do try at times. Anyway, here we go. Sounds like the Shallot doesn't get much love here anyway.

Now that it is done, I think I liked the blasted finish better, as it did not show dust and fingerprints as badly. I also think the job could have been much easier if I could get the blade/pivot apart so the scales could come apart. Thanks for looking, and if anyone can let me know how to finish taking the knife apart, I would appreciate it.

Nice!

Looks like the polishing didn't hurt the laser engraving much. Can we get a close-up shot of that? :)

Do I have the time to post a closeup? Like I have nothing better to do? Am I at your beck and call?

:D:D

Like this? Sure.:D

You can see the fingerprints I was mentioning earlier in the picture.

Very nice! What did you use to polish it? BTW...I have the exact same watch...

Here's your Shallot's ancestry!

Used a buffing wheel in a drill press w/ a couple of compounds. Emery and whatever the white one is. You can see that while it shines, it does not have a real hard shine to it. If I did it again, I would probably work it down w/ 1500 grit sandpaper first. Who knows. It came out OK. It will all be scratched up shortly. Maybe after a while I will do it all over again.

Especially if someone tells me how to finish taking the knife apart, so I don't have to worry about taping off the blade.

Open the blade. Tape it off so you don't pull a glockman. Remove the 3 torx screws going thru the back spacer. Remove the pivot screw. Take the slabs apart. Cuss like a madman that the torsion bar, washers and stop pin have flown across the room. Watch your lab eat them. Call Kershaw Monday for replacement parts. Wait for the mailman (MUCH better than waiting for your lab!). Reassemble using the reverse directions. Give your lab a treat when you're finished.

I love my Shallots. I can't wait for the TI/ZDP version to hit the streets! :D

Or put a small piece of rubber (like from a bike tire tube) under the clip. Remove clip, insert rubber, reattach clip.

Nice job, Any Cal.! I like the looks of that...

With respect to fingerprints, mine are so pervasive that even with the normal satin beadblasted SS finish that Kershaw uses they show up immediately...:D

Ray :)

Wow!! The Dead Sexy IS Dead Sexy :D

Can they still be found at retail outlets/online?

Um, they were never available in a retail outlet...these are custom knives. Current market value for a Ken Onion Dead Sexy is (I believe) around $3500. They occasionally show up for sale at various places.

Oh, I didn't know that :foot: But ~$3500

I'd love to get one but I don't think my fiancée would approve :D
