I have a Manix 2xl that I guess I am gonna try to pimp myself. What tools would a fellow need to cut and shape scales and what sort of considerations would I need to take into account to do a successful pimpin operation? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

If your thinking of making it into a Business I think you'd mainly need these:
A good rotary tool. I'd recommend a foredom that's what I see a lot of scale makers using to make patterns.
A good assortment of sanding drums.
I forget what there called but its a driil bit for countersinking holes so you get a flat bottomed hole so the screws are flush.
A belt grinder would be helpfull to.
And a drill press.

If your just gona make some for yourself I'd just pick up a dremel and some sanding drums and a drill if you don't already have one.
Also a variety of hand tools pliers markers. Vice grips clamps ect.
I'm no expert just my $0.02 hope it helps

I have never had a pimped knife before. I was thinking new scales in a reptilian pattern and a deep ride clip and some phospher bronze washers and a titanium back spacer or stand offs annodized.

Well I can't say any thing else other then tuffthumbz (knife pimper on YouTube) said he's gonna post 10 part Series on making knife scales. Also I'd ask a mod to move this to bladesmiths questions and answers.
Hope this helps!

Hello,

All you really need is a hacksaw and a drill press with sanding drums in assorted sizes, some drill bits, and a counter sink. You cut the g10 or whatever your using for scales with the hacksaw. Drill yours holes and countersink them. Then you can put the sanding drums in the chuck of the drill press, raise the platform up flush with the bottom of the drum, to do all your shaping and whatever pattern you want on the scales. I get much better control using the drill press and sanding drum while holding the scales with two hands then I can with a dermal tool. Google sanding drum for drill. They come in all sizes and grits. Make sure you use proper breathing protection!

Have a good one,

Chris

C-clamps, a rotary tool, solide work bench, also you'll probably want a saw manual or motor ran... Sandpaper and about 6 oto7 drawings before you even start.. Easier to screw up with a pencil and paper than to screw up on an expensive piece of g-10 or what ever material.tour gonna use... Measure twice, or more and cut once.... Sand to fit.. A Drill press is not mandatory, a vise or C-clamps will work, then a electric screw driver with cutting bits.... Also a caliper will be required to accurately measure the depth with scales on so you know how much to cut.... Are u gonna be getting new screws? If so than get them from spyderco. And if yer gonna use the same ones then it'll be a little Easter, measure the o.a length and what everyone else said, counter sink the holes..
