My Groove.. One of those love at first held knives for sure , and the more time I spent carrying and using it and flipping it while watching TV :D the more it became apparant to me that it needed some new clothes and some personal touches.

For starters I wanted more of a tip to it , I also did not care for the scales , so I bought some G10 - The G10 was quite a little project for me seeing as how I live in an apartment and used no power tools , I'm not sure if I'm happy with the "grooves" I put on the G10 but if it's not attractive it is very functional and very grippy , plus I like it much better than the little scales that the Groove came with, I'm still playing with the idea of putting a smaller scale on the lock side of the handle. , I also thought it could use some more traction in the front like they put on the rear of the handles.

The clip was darkened using a method of acid etchtant and gun blue , it is not permanent but will last a while depending on how much you rough it up. The lock side of the handle was very heavily sanded with 120 grit , so it has a brushed look and is not as slippery.

Rebel,
That looks awesome!! Who did the work on the G-10? If you did it yourself, very very nice. I'm impressed. Normally you're such a goof off, I'm pleasantly surprised to see you get something done!!;)

Again, really nice looking knife, I like the polish on the back side as well.

Cheers,
Jonny

EDIT: Whoops, sorry Rebel I saw your great pics and posted without reading:eek: I re-read and see you did do the G-10 yourself. Very nice.

nice job. i definitely think a little scale on the lock side would be a perfect addition. when i pick one up i might have to get a second and send it to you. :)

A most excellent job! I like the full grips. You could do the same on the lock side, but would need to drill and tap for screws.

Great job on the mods! The G10 is a good choice for the scale. How are those grooves working out for you, and what did you use to make the grooves?

You did that by hand? Good work!

If you can do the same with the other side I definitely think another scale would look great.

Thanks for the replies and compliments folks !

If I go with a smaller piece on the back , there are two holes tapped allready from the previous piece of G10 that came with the knife , so I could with those , although I am thinking on either trying to somwehow 'tiger stripe' or something similiar , or damascening the clip side like on old steel airplanes or engines - which I think would look killer.

As for if I would be interested in doing a G10 scale/s for you folks ? - I have plenty of G10 to do maybe 20 more , it is time consuming though , it took me roughly 2.5 hours to finish this one without adding the grooves ( in which I used a thin , round file and wore a mask - G10 is nasty to breathe ! )

The only thing one has to bear in mind on putting scales on these is , if you look at your Groove the outside edeges of the frames are slightly beveled so that there is a thin gap between the frame and the scale about two hairs big , it's not really nitcable unless your really touchy about fit and finish , I mean the scales are flush with the frame there is just that area that nothing could be done about unless I sanded about 1/32 of the frame off all the way around - hope this makes sense.

Thanks again for looking and commenting and if you are really interested in a scale , or want to wait till I make the other side ( if I do lol ) PM me and we'll figure something out worthwhile to both of us.

Todd
