I've noticed that some over at USN have Pimped Emersons.

Does anyone at Bladeforum's provide this service? If so could they reply to this thread with information about what they are able to do? ie: backspacers, new handle materials, etc.

the guys who do custom work on EKI's are pretty much at the "other" forum FWIW.

i have thought about having one individual do some work on my I&I tanto, but have held off so far. if ya want the guys name give me a email.

the work isnt cheap either, bolsters, micarta grips, and anodised liners ran ~$300 IIRC, before long ya have as much in one as a genuine custom.

i agree for that kinda money i'd rather save a little and get a custom '8 or something. ya would probably come closer to getting your $$ back if ya planned on selling it, if it was gonna be a user doesnt matter i guess. and the $300 was close i found the price list, bolsters $150, grips $90, liners $55

was thinking about having someone put bolsters on my custom '8 but thought better of it and am glad i did now, it woulda ruined the resale value or at least hurt it imho, my new motto is " only let ernie mess with ernies knives" lol.

Bob Doggett can work an Emerson as well as anybody.

Here's a couple of pictures of my Doggett CQC7 in MOP and Ti with jeweled Ti liners:

holy mother of pearl!!

that's nice

Thanks, I wish you could see it in person!

Bob is now re-deployed to West Asia (probably) so will be out of the knife making biz for awhile. He's got a website up that features some of his more recent work from '05: Doggett 2005

It was the first knife I bought (aside from Leathermen) and that started the knife collecting bug.

Well I've found a few sites that sell Carbon Fiber in 5X10inch sheets.... I don't think it'd be too hard to do the rest myself.

Are there any tips for drilling holes in carbon fiber? I assume that it would be best if I attempted to "thread the holes"

Heh - gotta search my name to catch up:)

I'm still in the Ghan and will be for quite a while. I stopped doing conversions back in 2002.
