I like the FFG16....I had the sabre16 for months and just couldn't love it, I liked it, but it just didnt feel right to me. The FFG is 500% better in my worthless opinion, Ethan did a wonderful thing in changing the grind. I would have never used the sabre...but the FFG is gonna see a lot of carry.

There was some friendly joshing earlier, a challenge was made, and I love challenges...

I tried making liners...failed miserably on the first and only attempt I made way back months ago....but I tried 'er again, and I like it. The 16 is a different beast altogether with the liners...I liked it before, but it was thinnish, it's dang near perfect now. The liners should be factory standard. If you ''like'' your Tweener, I highly recommend u try liners...u will ''love'' it afterwards!

I went with .80 kydex because it's what I have (I thought it would be too thick but I like the results) and in Orange because I love it, my favorite kydex color. It looks better in real life then in pics....trust me.

yeah, the sheath HAS to match the liners...... it's just how I roll bro. :D
Oh yeah, I stipple my smaller non-chopper scales....I wont use them un-stippled anymore, that's a simple, cheap (6$ soldering iron) mod with major performance enhancement.

In conclusion, FFG16 is awesome, and the liners make it 250% MORE awesome. If you don't have a FFG16, get one....if you have one, get liners (or make them....it aint that hard)

*ETA* forgot to mention, with .80 liners I had to go and buy new bolts....even with using Moose's ''strip it down tight and smash the zytel'' trick, the factory bolts wouldn't reach the nut threads. The local hardware store had some same type bolts in one inch length, I ground them down and partied on.

Those turned out really nice. Good to know .080 works well, too. After messing around with the 16 today, it didn't take long for me to be wishing for thicker handles, even with the thin liners I have on it.

That looks a like a great thickness for larger sized mitts! Awesome TB...awesome indeed!

I own quite a few Beckers and love them all, but no Tweeners- just haven't been able to get too worked up over them so far. These pictures may just change that for me...that looks awesome!! Great job...

Looks great, Thrill.
I'm glad the 080 worked out for you. Maybe adding a little thin aluminum to my 060 ones WILL work after all.
I've enjoyed my FPR 16, and cannot find fault in the grind - it's done everything I've asked of it, though was more splitty than slicey on my daughter's oversize apple pear - but I'm a big fan of FFG drop-points.
Darn you - now you've got me thinking I need another...

Thanks guys, I am very pleased with how it came out, thanks to Dubz for starting the handle thread, and K9.....I been meaning to do this ever since I used Moose's 16 with liners....I just needed a kickstart.

I liked my sabre......It was prettier then the FFG, but after using the FFGs at the Gathering, I knew I had to have one. The sabre would have been a safe queen....I dont need knives I dont use, so it had to go. Try the FFG, it is much more ''alive'' in the hand, nimble....and a better slicer.

the sabre was a sexy beast though

Looks very good and I am sure it fits your hand better. Did you make the sheath after you put the liners on or did you rework a sheath you made before?

Funny you should mention that - it's the only issue I have with my sabre 16. Since I added the big liners, it works better, but just feels slightly numb. Like the difference between a fisher space pen fine and medium refill.
I recently saw a good deal on the production BK16; the wife'll kill me - unless someone wants to do a swap (16's, not wives) - but I may need to check it out.

I'm plenty happy with the saber ground personally, but I haven't tried the FFG. I can see the balance being a bit different though.

Nice patina, it looks like a stone walkway or something? How'd you do it? Or is that just a trick of the trade :p

I love how the liners match the sheath... black and orange is a great color combo.

Yay, black and orange! Haha... Good work Clayton, I get what you mean by how the pics cant do justice for how "orange" the orange kydex is.

I bought this used, I have no idea what the patina is....It is wearing off quickly though LOL. That's why I prefer etching to patinas......the same look but permanent. I don't like going to the trouble to put a patina on, just to see my efforts wore off in a week.

It did look nice though, He did a good job on it.

I made the sheath today after I added liners. I just tried it in a similar taco I made on normal scales..it wont fit, way too thick. I'm sure you could heat a sheath mouth a bit and wedge the linered knife in...then just let it cool.

I don't think I recall hearing how you did this particular etch/patina/whatever. It is certainly nice looking. Care to share how you achieved the effect you did?

stripped it like normal, sanded all the grey coating off, washed it, cleaned it with acetone, handled it with latex gloves so I wouldn't get any oil on it

Then wiped it down with cold blue on a cottonball...all that^ is ''normal'' for how I etch, here's where I digressed. While the blue was still wet, I rubed it down with 0000 steel wool soaked in Blue (makes it more even supposedly) then soaked it in bleach for 1 hour 10 minutes, stirring/agitating it with a stirrer every 5 minutes or so ( I had it in a dish, wedged in the corners, blade down..just the tip and tiny bit of pommel touching glass)

Then pulled it out, wiped it off on a towel (still wearing latex so as not to mark it) and using pliers (gripped it in the handle holes) I dunked it in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then rinsed it off, and polished it down with more clean 0000 steelwool. then scrubbed it with palmolive and dish scrubber pad a few times under running hot water. then dried and wiped down with mineral oil.

It looks good with the black zytel...curious as to what it'll look like with the wood grips.

EDIT- AFTER I blued it..I appled a thin layer of Vick's vapor rub to the edge with a Q-tip..I have been applying Vicks BEFORE I blued, this way makes a MUCH cleaner edge....

Nice work on the liners, looks good. I can't believe for a giant, that the tweener handles fit your hands.
