I have heard of some people "pimping" their ti knives. I was wondering how I would go about doing this??? I was wondering how long this takes and if it is a hassle? Any pics??? THANKS

When people say they "pimped" their Umnum's it means that they gave customized their knives whether it be by giving it a scotch-brite finish, engraving some type of design on the handle scales, drilling patterns in the titanium, or anodizing it a different color. You can pimp your knife to any level you want...that's the beauty of it. In any case, make it YOUR knife...it'll be one-of-a-kind

One of the simplest ways to pimp a Ti handle is with a blowtorch. Just make sure you are torching only the Ti. No screws. The color will slowly creep if you are conservative with the heat. Make sure you clean the Ti with a solvent/cleaner first and don't handle it with your fingers or your skin oils will be burnt into it. I use coathanger wire.

I was thinking of the scotch brite method. I know it has been done many times before, but it does look good. I was wondering if this is done with a plain green pad from the grocery store? Is it done wet or dry???

I use the red scotch-brite pads and have gotten really good results. I'm sure the green pad would work just fine. Give it a try!

If I were you I would do some research and maybe some practice before trying to pimp a higher dollar blade.

My two cents.

You can sand the Ti for a satin finish with 600-800 grit paper. A "scotchbrite" finish also
looks really good. You can also go a bit further and get polish on it quite easily.

Colouring the Ti can be done with anodising for a clean uniform finish and also better
control of the colour you want. Heat colouring is another good way but takes a bit
of practise to get good uniform results, it's great if you want a multi colour finish too.

You can also make a new scale for the non locking side out of G-10 or carbon fiber, this
is one of the best ways to pimp a knife IMO as you still have the option to put it back
to standard if you want.

:)

When using the scotch-brite pads, I usually soak the pad in water first, squirt some dish soap on them, and then rub the scales under trickling water.

Ok it not a umnum but both are ti:D.

Pimped my mini skirmish with a orange g10 textured scale.

The sebbie was pimped bij Matt Cucchiara.
He has done his fizz job(little holes),rounded the edges and blue anodized the grey ti scales.

I made a new scale for it.First it was just flat g10 but found this a bit boring so did some texturing on it.

Hey jijoel. Any interest in selling the Cucchiara scale? I wondered who that belonged to. I've seen a few pics of it and have always liked it. Very nice G-10 scales by the way. You do nice work.

red scotch brite pads actually have small metal chips imbedded in the pad making them more agressive for industrial application.
green pads are ONLY nylon, you will do alot of work with no results

I have done both the 3 9V batteries, aluminum foil and Coke method and the butane torch method of anodizing on titanium for my AFCK liners and my Kershaw Talon scales. Good results on both, but it's much easier to get a uniform color with the battery method.

What is the method with coke and aluminum foil ?? I've not heard of this method.

Thanks!

Hello Tony,

i don't want to sell the fizzed scale.
It is blued en rounded just like the lock side and it should stay a complete cucchiara pimped knife;).

The orange g10 scale was a little try out.
I had 2 scales of g10 so made 1 for my bm and 1 for the crk.

I sometimes swap the scales and at the moment both knifes have ti scales.
