Started thinking of modifying SAR4 design to have a slightly more pointed blade and more agreeable handle.
Here is the original vs mod. Sorry for the low quality of the graphics work, but this one is just a quick scetch to show the idea.

What do you think?

Interesting, but I'd stick with the original. I love the blade and butt on the SAR4...its the actual handle I'd like to change to something thicker/more ergonomic.

The only thing that does is ruin a already great design.

Scratch that and keep it as is.

If you're gonna mod the SAR4, you should be removing the talon hole while you're at it, to give it a usable choil. The other mods look fine to me too, but the elf choil is the absolute worst design element on the SAR4 (and most other small Busse's)

I'm one of the few that actually like the talon hole. When holding the knife upside-down, you can feel the talon in the web of your hand (this helps alot when field-dressing a deer in the dark).
I did modify my SAR4's butt though, like that of DavidZ's knife.

I actually don't mind talon holes that much - I just hate tiny little choils, and the easiest way to make that choil usable is to use the area where the talon hole is to enlarge the choil.

I like dropping the point like that. Makes it better for bow drill divot drilling and some other "bushcraft" type tasks that the knife seems designed for. Drop the point and do the choil mods and that's be great -- might do that myself.

I know you said it was a sketch, but I'd also drop the point along a continuous curve, rather than a straight line.

Thanks guys for your inputs.
Especially shunsui for the links.
DavidZ, I saw your mod and you have inspired my considerations. I like your mode- it all makes sense. Was thinking of taking different direction.

Now after looking at SARDUCCI knife, I decided that I like randicci's mod the best. It is just sooo much more work, also I am sure I do not have skills necessary for doing this scope of change. Putting this project on-hold now. :D

dante,
There is always time to finish good stuff. One or the other way around :)
I like how your knife looks even in unfinished shape.
