Task: Create random striping on titanium scales

Conditions: Given 1 set of titanium scales, at least 14 thin rubber bands (12 will do, but you'll need 2 more just in case of breakage), 1 Pyrex dish or similar vessel), 1 stove, 1 quart tap water in a stove pot, at least 3 scoops worth of Oxi Clean, an egg timer or similar device.

1) Degrease titanium. I used ordinary dishwashing liquid and water.

2) Wrap rubber bands onto scales to your liking. I wrapped 6 bands onto each scale.

3) Pour boiling water into Pyrex dish then add 3 scoops of Oxi Clean, ensuring that you spread the latter evenly throughout the dish.

4) Submerge scales into solution.

5) Set egg timer to 45 minutes. Extract scales from solution at the end of 45 minutes or when bubbles (like head of beer) subside. If you want darker scales, spread one more scoop of OC evenly onto the scales when bubbles subside for a total immersion time of 1 hour.

6) Remove rubber bands then wash scales with dishwashing liquid and water.

7) Rub WD-40 or similar lubricant onto scales to even out finish. Wipe off WD-40 and reassemble knife.

Standards:
At the end of this exercise, you will have a set of alternately dark and light titanium scales.

Here are the results

Hey man , hats off to you ! That turned out very nice :) sort of urban camoish and stylish at the same time.
So using that same pethod one could make patterns with anything just about , like say electrical tape or duct tape maybe.... hmmm.....................

Thank you! Electrical tape or duct tape might work so long as it's wrapped completely around. I tried triangular strips of masking tape, but the heat dislodged them and they floated to the top of the solution. :D

those are some butt ugly phillips screws holding down your pocket clip!

PM me and I will get you two allen/torx screws in ss or carbon, depending on what you want, so it will look pro!

Here in SD, we have the Promised Land of toy stores, Marshall's Industrial Hardware. They also have a shop in Utah. They have just about every screw imaginable, including a boneroo selection of anti tamper screws, and drivers, in BOTH standard AND metric.

I'm going there on Saturday, and they are only open until 12:00 pm. Let me know, and I'll get you set up. I can even polish the screws for you, if you want SS.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

Thank you for the offer, Steven. I have some torx head 2-56 screws, but I chose the Phillips head ones over them because of ease of disassembly. I always carry a Sebertech M4 micro-tool with me and the Phillips screwdriver fits just fine. With torx head screws, I would have to carry an extra torx screwdriver with me in order to disassemble the Sebenza. :)

hmm, you can get colors using soda and 9V batteries, I wonder what happens when you put a current to Oxi Clean...
