Anyone got one of Dwayne's pin lock sheaths? I'm curious as to how it works. I don't see them as an option on the armoralleather site anymore. Hey leatherhog, maybe you can answer this?;)

I thought it was Kenny Rowe that made the pin locks. There was one around here somewhere that someone had for an ASH1-SE

I had one of Dwayne's for an original Satin Jack. It was a little too fancy for me with a Rattle Snake Inlay, but is sure is nice!

Either of you guys got a pic of Dwayne's pin lock? I wasn't aware he made them.

All I have.

.

I have two pin lock type sheaths, one for a ASH1 from Kenny Rowe and one for a SJ, but I'm not sure who made it. They both work great.

Dwayne usually marks his stuff either with his stamp or his initials for his older stuff. I had three of his pin locks and they were were very nice.

Great pics guys. Now how does this thing work? Does the pin go through the leather and bind up against the choil? I'm still confused about this. I originally thought that the pin went through the fron talon hole, but I saw one for a SH-E with a Ratweiler in it so that's obviously not the case.

Speculating, the pin could go in the choil  or it could go through the talon hole (from my short time considering it, the best place for it), or behind the talon hole in the grip area...

On the SJs pictured above it looks like it goes through the talon hole. On the ASH1 that's not the case as the talon hole is exposed. I went to Rowe's site and his pic is of a pin lock with a large non-Busse Bowie, so no choil or talon hole to use on that one. Such a simple design. Why can't I figure it out. I feel stupid:confused:

On my ASH1, it is snug against the choil and on the SJ, it is through the talon hole, so both ways actually, seems to work fine either way!

These were made by Dwayne.

The pin locks work great and there is no chance of ever cutting the keeper with your knife.

Thanks guys. It's interesting how this sheath works in different ways with different knives. I'll put my order in now so that I'll have it by 2010. Hurry up would you Dwayne!:D:D;)

This one from Dwayne has the pin going through the choil. Knife is a ZTNO that someone else owns now.

Thanks for the kind comments guys! :D I first learned the pin lock (Kenny calls it the Pin Loc) from Kenny. He has engineered that system into something wonderful. I've seen at least a dozen variations so far, some using the choil, the guard, a hole in the knife, and one I cant figure out for the life of me. He is truly the master of the Pin Loc. :)

Personally I try not to copy his lock too awful close, I take the basic idea and run with it. THe only knife I've been able to use the talon hole on is the original Satin Jack, the rest have used the choil.

Also, the pin lock is the most tempermental and difficult sheaths to engineer! A real PITA as they rely on very accurate patterning, and a lot of patience. Ricky had to badger me for quite some time to get that last pin lock. ;)

2010?!?!?! I better get on the ball!! You want this stuff quick eh Mike? :p

Good sheaths come to those who wait Dwayne. You're stuff is top notch, so I don't think any of us care how long it takes. You can't rush art. Thanks for all the info guys and the fine craftsmanship leatherhog.
