Hi everyone. This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if any of you guys ever had to replace the pins of the 42? I hope its nothing like the jaguars. I'm looking to get a 42 and want it to last for a very long time without high maintenance. What I mean by high maintenance is that I dont want to be replacing pins and other parts. I would also like to know if they easily get scratched? Thanks

I have never had any trouble with a 42. I'm sure if the pins ever became a problem, you could just send it to Benchmade and they would most likely do a fix for ya. I think their pins are heat treated SS though, so there should be no problem with them. As for scratching, the blade will scratch like any other blade, and the handles do get a little scratch here and there after a while, but I think it just adds character to it.

I have never heard of anything like that at all. Get one, you'll see. It will last you so many years I couldn't even tell you. You can't flip it enough. It sits on my desk and calls my name. It asks to be flipped! Oh, and no scatches yet on mine.

well you cant HONESTLY say it'll hold up for years because no-one has had one for more than a year. but it is DAMN secure and if it did fall apart (which is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo unlikely) then you could just send it to BM and they'd fix it for you in a jiffy

Is there a charge for sending it back to Benchmade to get a part fixed? Does the 42 have a warranty or anything like that?

Clay's had one for about nine months now and you know what he does to his balisongs.

Benchmade has been making balisongs for the most demanding users for decades. If you use it, your new 42 will, of course, pick up some wear. It's not indestructable and if you abuse it, you may break it. This is true of any folding knife. But, overall, the BM42 is one of the most durable folding knives you can buy.

My 42 latches open like a Jag but still latches closed tightly. Other than that there is almost no wear from the tang pin digging into the handles.
